Hypergrid Adventurers Club meet #28+29: Physics Education and Giant Laboratories on NewWorldGrid

This past Sunday we made two excursions to the region Physics on NewWorldGrid, where we discovered and explored a giant-sized physics lab as well as a planetarium.

In our second meeting of the day we met with the creator Aime Socrates, who also built the amazing CERN nuclear physics area we explored in a previous visit.

Read on for a full transcript and many photos from our two meetings on Sunday.

For more information about the Hypergrid Adventurers Club and how you can join us, please see our homepage.  You can also follow our club’s tweets at #HGAC.

Todays meetings were the first of the New Year.  And we set a new club record for people attending our meeting via the hypergrid!

People were logged in to Pathlandia on jokaydiaGRID from 5 different grids simultaneously.  A wonderful start to the New Year, which I predict will be very interesting for virtual worlds.

Marmottina Taurog: Hi everyone and Happy New year !
Pathfinder Lester: i just tweeted that we’re going to start in 5 min
Neo Cortex: Happy New Year everyone!
Josain zsun: I HG here from VWER the other day, but ended catching a bus from Jokadia
Jeff Kelley: hyper-warps
Pathfinder Lester: Josain, yes, hypergrid jumps between VWERGrid and jokaydiagrid are a little odd at the moment
Pathfinder Lester: i know folks are working on resolving that, though
Josain zsun: And I thought it was just me…
Pathfinder Lester: nope, not you!
Josain zsun: Thanks
Pathfinder Lester: just the bumpy nature of the hypergrid 🙂
Josain zsun: Needs new shocks already?
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Neo Cortex: sometimes the devil hides in details you never guess
lynsey traveler: funny Aloe, ur wearing the same sweater that I am currently wearing in sl
Pathfinder Lester: ok, i’ll kick things off with my standard intro remarks…..

Oronoque Westland: Path, there are two boxes with TextnSketch…one says version 2…is there a difference between them?
Timber Oceanlane: I am wanting to make the move from sl to another grid in 2011, so am checking them out…
Pathfinder Lester: Oro, it looks like Trevor has made a new version of the textnsketch board, yes
Pathfinder Lester: i will remove the older one now
Oronoque Westland: thanks
Pathfinder Lester: Trevor Meister has created an opensource whiteboard (it’s up on my left).

Oronoque Westland: it is a great tool
Pathfinder Lester: you can take a copy of it in a box next to the campfire

Pathfinder Lester: it’s a really neat tool. it uses opensim’s dynamic texture feature
Xon Emoto: cool thx
Pathfinder Lester: very handy, especially for educators!
Sail Woznaik: Been in Sl for 3 years, used to teach in a graduate of ed program introducing students to SL, part of Imagilearning and just got land here to work on building skills and start a community.

Vanish Seriath: Hehe, thank you.
nani ferguson: ty Path, it’s a great pleasure for me too
Pathfinder Lester: for those of you who many not know, nani ferguson is from Francogrid, and she created the amazing Winter festival on Francogrid that we toured last week: https://becunningandfulloftricks.com/2010/12/23/hypergrid-adventurers-club-meet-2425-a-christmas-adventure-on-francogrid/
lynsey traveler: ah
Jeff Kelley: We had a lot on fun on Winter/Noel
Pathfinder Lester: if any of you have not visited the FrancoGrid Winter festival, you can still check it out. it is open until Jan 19th.
nani ferguson: i’m happy if yu like Winter and Noel
Jeff Kelley: i LOVE it, nani
Pathfinder Lester: nani, they are beautiful regions. you do amazing work.
Oronoque Westland: this is wonderful….so many of us are here by hypergrid, proving “in the virtual flesh” how we can build community across the metaverse
nani ferguson: *blushes*
Ange Menges: I see that some here wear outfits that I know, lol
Josain zsun: I teach middle school Science, Technology, & Environmental Design. My Isla Sonoita is looking for under funded educators wanting space in SL.
Pathfinder Lester: Oro, that’s a great point. i see people here hypergridded in from 3 other grids today!
Pathfinder Lester: Josain, so you are offering space in SL to educators?
Josain zsun: To share in tier, yes
Pathfinder Lester: that’s very kind of you. i know many educators have been hit hard by the pricing increase. great to hear you’re doing that.
lynsey traveler: they have indeed
Josain zsun: We have been confirmed for the Ed. discount extension.
Oronoque Westland: 18 here for the record
El Sliven: woohoo!
Vanish Seriath: I guess it *is* a record.
Pathfinder Lester: Oro, nice 🙂 and i correct myself…i see people hypergridded in here from *5* different grids 🙂
Marmottina Taurog: wow !
Pathfinder Lester: that’s a record
Timber Oceanlane: but can we all dance?
Timber Oceanlane: 🙂
lynsey traveler: good start of the new year *wins*
lynsey traveler: *winks even*
Pathfinder Lester: a very good start to the new year 🙂
Graham Mills: Apologies for being (fashionably) late
Oronoque Westland: @Graham, my mother would be proud of you lol
Timber Oceanlane: and nice job you’ve done pathfinder, organizing and facilitating this group
lynsey traveler: really!
Pathfinder Lester: and speaking of Neo, his Hyperbase42 project is coming along very nicely. check out his blog when you have a chance: http://hbase42.blogspot.com/
Pathfinder Lester: thank you Timber
Pathfinder Lester: for a future meeting, i hope we can all get accounts on Hyperbase42 and use it as a jumping point to explore the HG 1.5 universe
Ange Menges: Path, the mumble test region is up on francogrid
Aloe Cortex: neo is hoping everyone will contribute to make that another place to look for information about hypergridding
Pathfinder Lester: since our club is based here on jokaydiagrid, we are currently only exploring HG 1.0 grids
Pathfinder Lester: Ange, oh yes! i saw your tweet!
Ange Menges: You have the hyperlink
Pathfinder Lester: i was planning on bringing the club to that region to test things out this Wednesday
Aloe Cortex: as well as as starting point for adventures
Oronoque Westland: mumble?
Pathfinder Lester: Mumble test region on francogrid. Hypergrid address: 178.63.103.67:9011:WhisperTest
Pathfinder Lester: Mumble is an opensource voice solution for opensim
Pathfinder Lester: it was just released as opensource last week
Jeff Kelley: I have added the missing URI to your blog, Pathfinder
Oronoque Westland: so last week was whisper, mumble…gracious no more typos for me!
Ange Menges: http://whisper.vcomm.ch/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=62
Pathfinder Lester: thanks Ange
Pathfinder Lester: thanks Jeff!
Ange Menges: Oro, murmur is the server, mumble the client and whisper the opensim module
Pathfinder Lester: i love the names 🙂
Marmottina Taurog: the names are great ! 🙂
Oronoque Westland: murmur, mumble, whisper….no more shouting
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Marmottina Taurog: hahaha !
Graham Mills: I guess someone already registered Clarity, Enunciation and SpeakClearly
Marmottina Taurog: they sound like names from the 19th Century !
Pathfinder Lester: oh, and in other news, I saw that Vanish has announced a party on his grid on Jany 16th. http://tgib.co.uk/2011/01/01/tomorrow-glares-into-beyond/
Vanish Seriath: Aw, yes.
Vanish Seriath: I scheduled it to be between the HGAC meetings.
Pathfinder Lester: unfortunately, I will not be able to make it. i’ll be away on vacation where there’s not internet access. but I hope many of you can attend!
Aloe Cortex: i’m looking forward to it!
Vanish Seriath: Aw, so there won’t be a meeting on the 16th?
El Sliven: woo hoo…we are excited!
Pathfinder Lester: V, i was going to cancel the meetings on the 16th since I’ll be away
Timber Oceanlane: you’re going to the moon pathfinder?
Vanish Seriath: Hm, maybe we can hold it there then, in your absentia.
Aloe Cortex: more time to party, lol
Timber Oceanlane: 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: i’m going to a small tropical island
Pathfinder Lester: seriously
Delenn Daines: good for you Path!
Oronoque Westland: you would be surprised at the connectivity in some out of the way places
Graham Mills: yup, have a good one
Pathfinder Lester: once a year i like to disconnect for a week
Pathfinder Lester: helps me put things in perspective
Marmottina Taurog: yes it’s good to be out of range for a bit ! 🙂
Oronoque Westland: leaving the snow behind is always a plus for me
Pathfinder Lester: if someone wants to volunteer to run the HGAC meetings on the 16th, please let me know. if folks want to have the meeting in my absence, that’s great!
Vanish Seriath: I’d like to volunteer.
Vanish Seriath: Hehe.
Pathfinder Lester: oh great!
Pathfinder Lester: thank you V 🙂
Jeff Kelley: Thanks V
Vanish Seriath: Aw, thank you.
Marmottina Taurog: cool !
Pathfinder Lester: V, i’ll send you some DMs on twitter so we can coordinate that
Vanish Seriath: Okay, that would be great.
Pathfinder Lester: thank you very much
lynsey traveler: I only heard a few ppl introducing themselves and am so curious…
lynsey traveler: maybe more would like to do that?
Oronoque Westland: Path, do we need notecards today?
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Vanish Seriath: Aw, okay. I’m V of tgib.co.uk. I make things.
Pathfinder Lester: please speak up and introduce yourself if you like!
Pathfinder Lester: Oro, yes, i’ll pass them around now. ty for reminding me.

— Notecard of Itinerary and Details —-
Before doing any Hypergrid jumps, be sure you have set your Home location and have relogged since you set it.  If you don’t, Hypergrid jumps will not work.  This appears to be a bug.

Many people find the Imprudence viewer to be very good for using with both SL and other grids.  You can find it here: http://imprudenceviewer.org/

*** How to make Manual Hypergrid Jumps in 4 easy steps ***
1) Open your World Map.
2) In the text box next to the Search button, enter the Hypergrid Address.
3) Click the Search button and wait for the map to move to the jump region.
4) Click the Teleport button.

*** Our Starting Location ***
Hypergrid Address: 66.240.233.81:9001:pathlandia
Region Name: “Pathlandia”
Grid Location: jokaydiaGRID (Lower)
Grid Website: http://jokaydiagrid.com
************************

Hypergrid Jump #1
Hypergrid Address: hypergrid.reactiongrid.com:9009
Region Name: “HG Gateway 1”
Grid Location: ReactionGrid (Middle)
Grid Website: http://reactiongrid.com

We’ll be making this jump using one of the instant Hypergates on Pathlandia.  It’s the stone archway next to the Tardis.  Just walk up to the archway and walk through it.  You will automatically make a Hypergrid jump to “HG Gateway 1.”

For more information on how these instant Hypergates work, see:
https://becunningandfulloftricks.com/2010/10/29/the-metaphor-of-portals/

“HG Gateway 1” is a handy jump point in the “middle” of the Hypergrid.

Hypergrid Jump #2
Hypergrid Address: regions.newworldgrid.com:13000
Region Name: “Laasonen”
Grid Location: New World Grid (Upper)
Grid Website: http://newworldgrid.com

We’ll make this jump the manual way (see above “How to make Manual Hypergrid Jumps in 4 easy steps.”)

Laasonen Metahotel is a landing place for hypergrid travelers situated in a nice tropical archipelago.

From here we’ll make a local teleport on New World Grid to the region “Physics.”   We will tour a giant-scale science lab where your avatar is as small as a mouse and must find a secret passage up to the roof.

***
jokaydiaGRID has a Newbie Dome for folks to pick up freebies that can help them get started.  If you find any good freebies in your Hypergrid travels that you’d like to share, you can put them in the Newbie Dome.   There’s currently a lack of many good outfits and items for male avatars, so it would be great if we could find more items like that to share.
— End of Notecard —

Oronoque Westland: Path is thinking of his great escape lol
El Sliven: I am Vanish’s partner at TGIB….
lynsey traveler: what is TGIB?
Oronoque Westland: TGIB has FANTASTIC builds
lynsey traveler: ah
Oronoque Westland: blog too
Vanish Seriath: tgib is a website we maintain. You can get stuff for opensim there.
lynsey traveler: oh great!
Marmottina Taurog: Just looking at the site now, fascinating !
Aloe Cortex: and i appreciate it, vanish. i’ve made my own sim on a stick and you are helping a great deal to furnish it : )
Pathfinder Lester: V has many helpful tutorials on his tgib blog, too. i’ve been learning how to create realistic RAW terrain files from one of his tutorials recently. http://tgib.co.uk/2010/05/07/how-to-create-raw-terrain-files-for-second-life-and-opensim-with-terragen/
Vanish Seriath: Aww, you’re all welcome.
Oronoque Westland: great — I have heard fun things about today’s destination
lynsey traveler: oh Path just reading your notecard (and thx), but what if my search won’t work?
lynsey traveler: it didn’t when I tried to find people (you) and events
Vanish Seriath: It’s the search in the map, and it usually works always.
Pathfinder Lester: lynsey, searching works on the world map. but not so much with searching for people or events
lynsey traveler: I see
Pathfinder Lester: that part of opensim is still under construction 😉
lynsey traveler: I just flew around to find this spot
lynsey traveler: where people were:)
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Pathfinder Lester: that works too!
lynsey traveler: understood
Aloe Cortex: good strategy!
Pathfinder Lester: we are all adventurers on a frontier here. so we have to be flexible. 😉
lynsey traveler: hehe yes!
El Sliven: yes…that is always a good strategy!
Pathfinder Lester: so today, we’re going to go to NewWorldGrid
Pathfinder Lester: the whole plan is layed out in the notecard
Pathfinder Lester: so if you get lost, or want to do the trip later, you can follow the notecard
Pathfinder Lester: we can start now
Pathfinder Lester: our first jump is thru this gate

We all walk through an Instant Hypergate (aka “Blamgate) on the region Pathlandia on jokaydiaGRID.

And we arrive on the region HG Gateway 1 on ReactionGrid.

Pathfinder Lester: made it this far 😉
Graham Mills: Hi 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: hi Graham
Graham Mills: Doors to manual
Pathfinder Lester: from here
Pathfinder Lester: manual jump to the hypergrid address: regions.newworldgrid.com:13000
Pathfinder Lester: hi Siri!
Graham Mills: Hi Siri 🙂
Graham Mills: See you there
Pathfinder Lester: roger

We all make a Manual Hypergrid jump and arrive on the region Laasonen on NewWorldGrid.

Pathfinder Lester: ok
Pathfinder Lester: from here it’s a local teleport to the region “Physics”
Pathfinder Lester: seey ou all on the region Physics!

While on NewWorldGrid, we make a local teleport to the region Physics.

Pathfinder Lester: woot!
Oronoque Westland: shall we go on to the lab?
Pathfinder Lester: sorry about the bumps today
Vanish Seriath: What lab?
Vanish Seriath: THE Lab?
Graham Mills: Pretty smooth given the numbers
Jeff Kelley: A giant lab with a puzzle
Pathfinder Lester: i’m standing in front of the teleport gate to the Lab
Pathfinder Lester: yes, giant scale lab
Pathfinder Lester: and we will be as small as mice 🙂
Vanish Seriath: Aw, great.

Pathfinder Lester: we can’t fly
Pathfinder Lester: we must walk anddiscover!
Graham Mills: ooh, honey i shrunk the avatars

Pathfinder Lester: we walk up this pipe
Graham Mills: it’s a very small ramp imo
Pathfinder Lester: careful of the matches!

Pathfinder Lester: fire hazard
Pathfinder Lester: nooo….i’m in the sink and the water is on!

Mel Blauvelt: flamethrower spotted! en garde!

Pathfinder Lester: Mel, lol
Mel Blauvelt: o discus fish!

Pathfinder Lester: did anyone set off the mousetrap when you walked in?
Delenn Daines: wow, you all look like ants down there!

Pathfinder Lester: boy, that’s a long way down!
nani ferguson: yes
Pathfinder Lester: i think we have to walk up this brush
Pathfinder Lester: very narrow
Oronoque Westland: I fell inside the stove

Pathfinder Lester: Oro, nooooooo!
Pathfinder Lester: I have to head out now. Good luck making your way up to the attic!
Jeff Kelley: There is gold up there
Pathfinder Lester: take care, everyone. see you again soon!

That’s the end of our first meeting of the day.  Read on for our second meeting!

Pathfinder Lester: hi Pam! oh great, a visitor from GovGrid!
Pam Broviak: yes – i made the map
Vanish Seriath: Aww, it’s great!
Vanish Seriath: Hi Neo.
Pathfinder Lester: http://govgrid.org/hypergridmap
Pathfinder Lester: i love your map, Pam!
Pam Broviak: thanks – still fixing some mistakes i made 🙂
El Sliven: Hi there Neo!
Pam Broviak: thanks!
Neo Cortex: Hello everyone, and a Happy New Year!
Pathfinder Lester: maps are never completely finished. they just pause in interesting places.
Vanish Seriath: Well, I only missed Metropolis, other than that it looks complete to me.
El Sliven: Yes, Pam…that map was REALLY nice!
Xon Emoto: That’s cool, thanks for sharing.
El Sliven: Happy New Year.
Pam Broviak: thanks – will check into Metropolis
Thirza Ember: oh I must check that out!
El Sliven: Neo, will Aloe be coming again?
Pathfinder Lester: I believe that Metropolis grid has updated their hypergrid protols from HG 1.0 to HG 1.5 since we first toured there. which means you now can’t jump to there from jokyaidaGRID
Vanish Seriath: metropolis.hypergrid.org:9000 <— hglink to Metropolis
Neo Cortex: i cant tell… we havent met after the meeting earlier today
El Sliven: awww….ok.
Pathfinder Lester: speaking of HG 1.5, though. Neo, how’s Hyperbase42 coming along?
Pathfinder Lester: i saw you found my drunk hamsters 😉
Pam Broviak: i loved the hamster build!
Neo Cortex: hehe
Pathfinder Lester: http://hbase42.blogspot.com/2010/12/drunken-hamsters-unresponsive-vps-and.html

Neo Cortex: well… first of all…. thanks for the invasion ^^
Pathfinder Lester: my pleasure
Neo Cortex: i have rebuilt the base a little, currently on my test island
Neo Cortex: i lowered it back to 20m
Neo Cortex: and moved the train a bit
Neo Cortex: some tweaks here and there
Neo Cortex: i think i’ll be moving it over to the main base location tomorrow
Pathfinder Lester: also, I’ve updated the main HGAC info page to include information about Hyperbase42: https://becunningandfulloftricks.com/hypergrid-adventurers-club/
Neo Cortex: i love how it developed during those few days it exists
Neo Cortex: Thanks to Vanish and Pathfinder!
Pathfinder Lester: so that should raise more awareness of the project
Vanish Seriath: Aw, you’re welcome.
Pathfinder Lester: you’re very welcome Neo
Pathfinder Lester: well, i’ll make the standard meeting intro remarks now
Neo Cortex: Zhis is exactly what i expect from a working hypergrid
Pathfinder Lester: Welcome to the Hypergrid Adventurers Club! Thank you all for joining us today.
Pathfinder Lester: The first 30 min of each meeting is spent on introductions and an open discussion.
Pathfinder Lester: And for the second 30 min of each meeting, we will make some Hypergrid jumps to visit and explore an interesting location on the Hypergrid.
Pathfinder Lester: To start, if you wish, feel free to jump in and say a few words about yourself and your projects/interests in open chat. This is always a good opportunity for networking. 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: I post a full report and transcript of each meeting’s open chat on my blog, so this is also a chance for you to share information with everyone who reads the blog.
Pathfinder Lester: And if you say anything in open chat that you would NOT like to be posted on my blog, please just say so in chat and I will redact your comments.
Pathfinder Lester: I’m Pathfinder Lester, John Lester in real life. I used to work at Linden Lab from 2005-2010. Now I work at ReactionGrid Inc. as Director of Community Development. I started the Hypergrid Adventurers Club back in October of 2010. My blog is at http://becunningandfulloftricks.com
Yanni Fairlady: AFk
Vanish Seriath: I’m V of tgib.co.uk. I’ve been here before.
Vanish Seriath: Hehe.
Neo Cortex: I am Neo and i have met V here before 😉
El Sliven: I am V’s partner in crime…:)
Pathfinder Lester: Oh V, i wanted tell you that if you wanted to put up a little flyer about your upcoming Jan 16th part on my hypergrid kiosk over there, please feel free.
Vanish Seriath: Aw, okay.
Pathfinder Lester: i saw the one you put up on your TGIB grid
Pathfinder Lester: very nice
Vanish Seriath: Well, let me hang one here.

Pathfinder Lester: and the new handrails at the landing point should help folks from falling into the ocean when they visit you. 😉
Vanish Seriath: Yes, I hope so.
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Pathfinder Lester: Pam, I’m very interested in your GovGrid project. could you tell us a little bit about it? we’d love to learn more. 🙂
Neo Cortex: actually i am just another hypergrid traveler who tries to set up some connections between some useful HG ressources… especially to collect and spread knowledge and creativity
Pathfinder Lester: Neo, that’s outstanding 🙂
Pam Broviak: Sure – it grew out of our govt group munigov in SL. We wanted to have a safe and low cost place for people working in or interested in govt
Pathfinder Lester: very cool. how long has govgrid been around on opensim?
Pam Broviak: several months but we really haven’t devoted the time to it that we need to – we plan to make the final move in the next several months so are now getting closer to getting the development done
Pathfinder Lester: gotcha
Vanish Seriath: is this just for US governmental people or from everywhere?
Pam Broviak: it is hard to get people who are used to SL to make the move – it is for anyone in the world
Pam Broviak: govt is opposite of the rest of SL – we want to share and give our stuff away. We needed to have a type of CC license or public domain choice on building but he never understood that
Xon Emoto: great approach 🙂
Pam Broviak: this is why opensim works so well right now
Pathfinder Lester: gotcha
Vanish Seriath: Well, how can they keep you from using cc licenses?
Pam Broviak: it was hard with the building – we can’t take out things now if we don’t own them 100%
Pathfinder Lester: well, i think part of the challenge is that SL as a platform itself doesn’t really support that, based on the Terms of Service
Pathfinder Lester: the SL TOS says you have a limited use license to the things you “buy” in SL. you don’t own them outright.
Pam Broviak: yes, but we figured maybe they could look into changing it – others seem willing for that type of license
Neo Cortex: at least some part of opensim works this way… some other try to run closed comercial grids
Neo Cortex: there are always two sides of the medal: some content providers want to make some cash out of their creations
Xon Emoto: Pam, what part of gvt are you with?
Pam Broviak: well it is breaking new ground so i understand – i am in local government and work for a city
Pathfinder Lester: i think it’s great you’re exploring opensim and virtual worlds being used in government. that’s awesome.
Pathfinder Lester: very pioneering stuff
Xon Emoto: I understand. so many possibilities in vws !
Pam Broviak: yes it has a lot of uses for us – just need to get the word out more
Pathfinder Lester: hmm…there was a gov project here in Boston with folks from Emerson College and Harvard a while ago….
Xon Emoto: That was Evan Leeks
Pathfinder Lester: yes!
Pam Broviak: yes, Nigel Jacobs with Boston was involved – and Evan from the college I think
Pathfinder Lester: i know evan 🙂
Xon Emoto: great stuff in urban development and citizen’s participation
Pathfinder Lester: found it: http://hub2.org/
Pathfinder Lester: that was a couple years ago. i wonder if they’re doing anything more in virtual worlds, or exploring opensim…
Xon Emoto: Evan is very active with Unity 3D
Pam Broviak: they are working with browser based worlds – they have a new project – Participatory Chinatown
Pathfinder Lester: oh really? i didn’t know that. i haven’t spoken to him in probably over a year now.
Xon Emoto: but it’s been a while since I met him in SL.
Pathfinder Lester: Pam, oh cool! thanks for that info.
Pam Broviak: http://www.participatorychinatown.org/
Pathfinder Lester: oh cool
Xon Emoto: http://vimeo.com/11486628
Neo Cortex: Looks as if we already achieved one of this meetings goals today 😉
Pathfinder Lester: networking!
Vanish Seriath: “Advancing the human condition?”
Pathfinder Lester: sharing projects!
Pathfinder Lester: V, i like that goal best.
Neo Cortex: aww…. one step after the other, V 😉
Vanish Seriath: It’s a noble goal.
Pathfinder Lester: defintely
Neo Cortex: agreed
Vanish Seriath: There’s just many ways to that, and opinions on the directions differ.
Vanish Seriath: *cough*
Pathfinder Lester: good points
Vanish Seriath:
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Neo Cortex: what an explanation if someone asks me what we are doing here…. “Advancing the human condition, what else?” ^^
Vanish Seriath: Hehe.
Pathfinder Lester: oh, and Neo, I wanted to tell you that…..aliens have landed here on Pathlandia. I think your crop circles drew them in.
Vanish Seriath: I’m here for the hamsters.
El Sliven: That sounds medical to me!
Pam Broviak: lol yes the hamsters attracted me too 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: i will not divulge exactly *where* the aliens are….or if they are friendly or sinister. that is up to you to discover.

For those of you reading this transcript, here’s a hint about the location of the aliens.

Pathfinder Lester: the hamsters are definitely shady.
Yanni Fairlady: those naughty hampster
Thirza Ember: hmm /makes note to send her readers to look for boozy
Pathfinder Lester: here on Pathlandia the hamsters have a working cannon on their ship, too. and they’re not afraid to use it.

If you visit these hamsters on Pathlandia, try clicking on the cannon…

Vanish Seriath: Aw, regarding hyperbase: I successfully got two opensim installations to use the same db.
Vanish Seriath: So I can use either 0.7 or 0.6.9 with the same data.
Xon Emoto: wow
Yanni Fairlady: It has some thing to do with the hampster condition apparently though
Pathfinder Lester: o wow
Neo Cortex: o.O…
Vanish Seriath: It’s pretty simple, actually.
El Sliven: 0.0
Neo Cortex: what happens if you send any updates to the database?
Pathfinder Lester: i’m gong to pass out today’s notecard while you all chat

— Notecard of Itinerary and Details —-
Before doing any Hypergrid jumps, be sure you have set your Home location and have relogged since you set it.  If you don’t, Hypergrid jumps will not work.  This appears to be a bug.

Many people find the Imprudence viewer to be very good for using with both SL and other grids.  You can find it here: http://imprudenceviewer.org/

*** How to make Manual Hypergrid Jumps in 4 easy steps ***
1) Open your World Map.
2) In the text box next to the Search button, enter the Hypergrid Address.
3) Click the Search button and wait for the map to move to the jump region.
4) Click the Teleport button.

*** Our Starting Location ***
Hypergrid Address: 66.240.233.81:9001:pathlandia
Region Name: “Pathlandia”
Grid Location: jokaydiaGRID (Lower)
Grid Website: http://jokaydiagrid.com
************************

Hypergrid Jump #1
Hypergrid Address: hypergrid.reactiongrid.com:9009
Region Name: “HG Gateway 1”
Grid Location: ReactionGrid (Middle)
Grid Website: http://reactiongrid.com

We’ll be making this jump using one of the instant Hypergates on Pathlandia.  It’s the stone archway next to the Tardis.  Just walk up to the archway and walk through it.  You will automatically make a Hypergrid jump to “HG Gateway 1.”

For more information on how these instant Hypergates work, see:
https://becunningandfulloftricks.com/2010/10/29/the-metaphor-of-portals/

“HG Gateway 1” is a handy jump point in the “middle” of the Hypergrid.

Hypergrid Jump #2
Hypergrid Address: regions.newworldgrid.com:13000
Region Name: “Laasonen”
Grid Location: New World Grid (Upper)
Grid Website: http://newworldgrid.com

We’ll make this jump the manual way (see above “How to make Manual Hypergrid Jumps in 4 easy steps.”)

Laasonen Metahotel is a landing place for hypergrid travelers situated in a nice tropical archipelago.

From here we’ll make a local teleport on New World Grid to the region “Physics.”   We will tour a giant-scale science lab where your avatar is as small as a mouse and must find a secret passage up to the roof.

***
jokaydiaGRID has a Newbie Dome for folks to pick up freebies that can help them get started.  If you find any good freebies in your Hypergrid travels that you’d like to share, you can put them in the Newbie Dome.   There’s currently a lack of many good outfits and items for male avatars, so it would be great if we could find more items like that to share.
— End of Notecard —

Vanish Seriath: They work fine.
Vanish Seriath: I updated the db to 0.7, and it still works with 0.6.9
Neo Cortex: there was a huge update in the move to 0.7
Vanish Seriath: Yes, there was.
Neo Cortex: i am pretty sure the 0.6.9 wont update all fields the 0.7 needs
Vanish Seriath: Well, yes and no.
Vanish Seriath: It doesn’t update avatar appearance.
Thirza Ember: what does that mean?
Vanish Seriath: So that’s inconsistent between the versions.
Vanish Seriath: It means if you change the appearance of your avatar in 0.6.9, your avatar is ruthed in 0.7
El Sliven: it means I have to redress everytime we change versions!
Vanish Seriath: Yes.
Thirza Ember: ummm
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Neo Cortex: back to Adam / Eve… errm Ruth?
Thirza Ember: that sounds like a masculine ploy
Vanish Seriath: Well, only the first time.
Vanish Seriath: After that, you just have two different appearances.
Vanish Seriath: But inventories, region assets, etc. are consistent.
Pam Broviak: vanish – i think i remember avatar issues like that between v1 and v2 using the SL viewer in nSL
Xon Emoto: this opens for me, it’s from this afternoon
Neo Cortex: V: sounds really great, i surely want to take a closer look too
Chimera Cosmos: hi guys
Pathfinder Lester: hi Chimera!
Vanish Seriath: Well, it solves some of the incompatibility issues.
Chimera Cosmos: sorry to be late – SL work 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: ok, looks like it’s time we start out trip!
Pathfinder Lester: first jump is thru this blamgate
Neo Cortex: ladies and small children first!

We all walk through an Instant Hypergate (aka “Blamgate) on the region Pathlandia on jokaydiaGRID.

And we arrive on the region HG Gateway 1 on ReactionGrid.

Pathfinder Lester: woot!
Neo Cortex: works really great now
Xon Emoto: yay 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: from here we make a manual jump
Pathfinder Lester: *** How to make Manual Hypergrid Jumps in 4 easy steps ***
1) Open your World Map.
2) In the text box next to the Search button, enter the Hypergrid Address.
3) Click the Search button and wait for the map to move to the jump region.
4) Click the Teleport button.
Pathfinder Lester: and the address is: regions.newworldgrid.com:13000
Pathfinder Lester: you folks jump ahead. i’ll wait for everyone to make it.

We all make a Manual Hypergrid jump and arrive on the region Laasonen on NewWorldGrid.

Pam Broviak: bonsoir
giovanni molko: ciao 😀

  33. I think the seat of our dreams, hopes and spriit will always live within human beings. But the Internet gives us a new tapestry upon which we can share these human things. So in that sense, you could argue the Internet is becoming the most global and instantaneous tapestry ever created. It is where souls are shared.
