Flying Avatars and Space Shuttle Orbiter in Jibe

Jibe 1.3 has been released by ReactionGrid!

In addition to a bunch of bugfixes and new features, we’ve now added the ability for avatars to fly.

To celebrate, I imported a model of the Space Shuttle Orbiter and placed it in the sky of my own Jibe world.  To visit it, just fly up!  And to learn how I set it up, read on…

Finding a model of the Space Shuttle Orbiter was easy.  NASA has a great website with lots of freely available models.  I found the model I wanted right here.

Perfect!

I downloaded the model, unzipped the file, and found the .3ds file and associated textures.

All the files you need.

I dragged these files into the Project window of my Unity editor, then dragged the .3ds model from my Project window to my Scene window.

Voila.  I now have a Space Shuttle Orbiter floating high above my Jibe world!

Careful. That first step is a doozy.

Finally, I added a sign on the ground where avatars first appear in my Jibe world to let them know where they can find the Space Shuttle Orbiter.

Where is the shuttle? Oh yeah. Look up!

There you are!

Have fun flying your avatar around in Jibe 1.3!  You can visit my Jibe world here.
