Hypergrid Adventurers Club meet #18+19: Exploring Quebec on FrancoGrid, Discussing Content Licensing, and Discovering Crop Circles

In today’s two meetings we explored the region Quebec on FrancoGrid.  This region featured a library with interactive 3D exhibits, a planetarium with a UFO exhibit, and a replica of the Pont de Québec bridge.  We also had great discussions including one about content ownership and licensing in OpenSim.

Read on for a full transcript and many photos of our adventure.

We begin on the region Pathlandia on jokaydiaGRID.

Pathfinder Lester: I hope Neo Cortex shows up today. He left something ominous in my cornfield.
Oronoque Westland: more fertilizer?
Mimi Muircastle: wrong time of year for ominous!
Pathfinder Lester: Crop Circles!
Pathfinder Lester: aliens have invaded the corn field.

Mel Blauvelt: hahaha
Ange Menges: Fantastic your meetings on reaction grid, Path 🙂
Mimi Muircastle: actually, hyperaliens 🙂
Mel Blauvelt: hi Coyote
Pathfinder Lester: Mimi, yes! lol
Pathfinder Lester: Ange, glad you liked them. 🙂
Mimi Muircastle: yes, I heard those mtgs were great – sorry I had to miss them

The meetings Mimi and Ange are referring to were the ReactionGrid IndieMetaverse presentations from Dec 1-3.  You can find video recordings of them all by going to ReactionGrid’s Livestream page and looking in the Video Library.

Bau Ur: Mell, good fellow, good to see you.
Pathfinder Lester: Bau, I love your avatar!
Mimi Muircastle: I do too, Bau!
Pathfinder Lester: *your
Bau Ur: 🙂 I threw it together with Torley’s textures, not having anything else yet.
Mimi Muircastle: nice toss!
Bau Ur: I put the hat in the freebie giveaway area, with some sculpt maps too.
Mimi Muircastle: there were free avatars on German grid I noticed
Pathfinder Lester: Bau, oh that’s great. thank you. I’ve been looking for hats lately.
Oronoque Westland: Path, do you have regular meetings on RG?
Pathfinder Lester: Oro, I have office hours on RG
Pathfinder Lester: https://becunningandfulloftricks.com/my-weekly-office-hours/
Oronoque Westland: ah…didn’t realize
Bau Ur: Hello Jadyn. It is a delight to see familiar people outside SL.
Mimi Muircastle: , the power of twitter to inform:)
Pathfinder Lester: i’m going to see if I can set up a google calendar for office hours for other RG folks too
Mimi Muircastle: yes, Bau, that is fun!
Bau Ur: How strange that in a world of, allegedly, 14 million or more accounts, there are some people I see repeatedly in completely independent contexts.
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Oronoque Westland: great minds think alike Bau
Coyote Longfall: isn’t that interesting? the power of virtual community
Bau Ur: hmm, or, the sludge falls to the bottom? EIther metaphor might apply. 🙂 ONe must be careful not to select only the most complimentary explanations for things….
Jadyn Firehawk: hi bau, hi everyone
Bau Ur: 🙂
Mimi Muircastle: I think there are now new definitions of virtual vs. real re: community
Bau Ur: Mim yes it’s true surely.
Coyote Longfall: there are – and we are inventing them as we go
Bau Ur: Mim were you a Mentor?
Mimi Muircastle: for which group? I am for Nonprofit commons
Jenny Oliver: Good to be here at last
Pathfinder Lester: ok, I’ll kick things off now. Welcome to the Hypergrid Adventurers Club! Thank you all for joining us today.
Patnad Babii: is this the hypergrid explorer here
Bau Ur: Patnad…isnt’ that a Thai noodle dish? Great name.
Mimi Muircastle: padthai 🙂 yum
Pathfinder Lester: Patnad, yep!
Pathfinder Lester: The first 30 min of each meeting is spent on introductions and an open discussion.
Pathfinder Lester: And for the second 30 min of each meeting, we will make some Hypergrid jumps to visit and explore an interesting location on the Hypergrid.
Pathfinder Lester: To start, everyone please jump in and say a few words about yourself and your projects/interests in open chat. This is always a good opportunity for networking. 🙂
Patnad Babii: ok ill sit and instruct myself then 😉
Pathfinder Lester: I post a full report and transcript of each meeting’s open chat on my blog, so this is also a chance for you to share information with everyone who reads the blog.
Pathfinder Lester: And if you say anything in open chat that you would NOT like to be posted on my blog, please just say so in chat and I will redact your comments.
Bau Ur: That is kind of you, Path.
Mimi Muircastle: Mimi/Charlotte just a hypernaut wanderer loving the adventure – still active in SL and learning to build here with the 20K prims!!
Pathfinder Lester: no problem Bau.
Marmottina Taurog: Hi everyone,I’m and artist and designer, I own and make everything for Green and Wild Garden Centre in SL and IW and I love exploring and seeing what fantastic creations there are in the metaverse…
Coyote Longfall: I’m Coyote Longfall, R&D Director for Four Bridges, which has been a longstanding education project founded by Amy Cross through the University of Maine, and is now tranistioning to be a startup virtual world services company, providing community based services for educational institutions, nonprofits, and business
Mimi Muircastle: a garden ctr is what we need here!
Oronoque Westland: teach Caribbean and (soon) women’s studies at college/university level…committed to immersion
Pathfinder Lester: Marmottina, your creations are just amazing. Everyone should check out her blog and the beautiful work: http://greenandwild.blogspot.com/
Ange Menges: Ange Menges, french, hobby 3D modeling for 10 years. Tools 3DSMax, photoshop, poser3D. Dicovered second life at the end of 2006. Francogrid team member since 2008 (actually 17 regions on line). Build virtual worlds for fun, no link with real life (I run an audit firm). Little blog for opensim (in french) at http://angefg.wordpress.com
Marmottina Taurog: Ty Path, very kind of you to say so ! 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: Patnad, this is your first time joining us, yes?
Bau Ur: I am a former high school teaher — chemistry, biology, environmental science, formal writing, poetry, and world geography. Now a grantwriter and very unsuccessful artist 🙂 Interested in potential of virtual worlds for education, art, & social change. Glad to discuss ethics, science-related social issues, the sources of human misery and happiness, and anything that you have found is important to notice about life.
Patnad Babii: yes but ive been in the Gridnault group before 🙂
Marmottina Taurog: Ange, I have just got a copy pf Poser, and I’m looking forward to playing wiith it ! I use PS and Zbrush and Blender as well, even though it drives me crazy !
Jenny Oliver: Bau – I think we met in SL? About a year ago (I’m Silviana Jenvieve there)
Mimi Muircastle: working on learning Blender —> very slowly 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: Patnad, oh cool! so you were experimenting back in 2008 when LL was exploring jumping between SL and IBM’s Opensim installation?
Bau Ur: smiles and waves at Jenny/Silvania. I think we showed in a galelry together one time.
Marmottina Taurog: Mimi, slowly is the only was with Blender ! 😉
Ange Menges: lol Marmottina, poser is not too difficult. If I can help you, just ask
Jenny Oliver: 🙂
Da5id Zsigmond: Hi All – been building and scripting in SL since early 2007. Mainly structures, terraforming and landscaping stuff. I come from music and recording so very interested in audio and have pushed the limits of that in SL. Really interested in the 3D web possibilities.
Mimi Muircastle: for sure
Marmottina Taurog: ty Ange !
Bau Ur: Cool Patnad.
Jenny Oliver: I”m glad I’m not alone in finding Blender tricky!
Mimi Muircastle: I bought a book!
Pathfinder Lester: hi Jokay 🙂
Marmottina Taurog: Hahaha, not you’re not, it’s like learning a new language Jenny !
Mimi Muircastle: for blender that is!
Mel Blauvelt: Philosopher, interested in interdisciplinary research, worldview building, aesthetics
Jenny Oliver: I’m normally good at languages but Blender is defeating me!
Bau Ur: I also am driven mad by Blender and would be happy to be in contact with someone who mentors Blender or is a fellow struggling learner.
Coyote Longfall: Jenny – I’m having the same problem with blender, and am trying an easier one, called sculptypaint, it’s not as versatile, but it’s pretty easy to make random organic shapes, or any shape you can envision making on a potters wheel
Pathfinder Lester: the only blender I am competent at is the one I use to make smoothies in my kitchen…
Patnad Babii: I am a programmer in RL, mostly working with C# and ASP.net, i’ve submited a patch or two to opensim, I like the possiblities opensim brings us, I’ve been working in SL for a while now, been doing estate rental, advertising businesses and scripting a few gadgets, I run RezzMe technologies 🙂
Bau Ur: Mel forgets to menttion: mensch.
Mimi Muircastle: 🙂 me too
Jenny Oliver: Thanks, Coyote
Marmottina Taurog: Da5id : I’m a musician in rl, I’ve never tried doing anything with it in virtual worlds even though I’m interested in that…
Jokay Wollongong: hehe… i feel our pain Bau 😉 Machinimatrix’s video tutorials are epic.. i’d also recommend getting the Jass blender package if you’re a newbie
Da5id Zsigmond: Hi M. They haven’t given the audio much thought in SL.
Coyote Longfall: made this hat using 3 sculpties I made in that program
Bau Ur: Cool Marmot. I bet you’ll find delightful opprotunities to perform in VW.
Da5id Zsigmond: Except to avoid copyright problems. lol
Mimi Muircastle: Jass Blender??? free or to purchase?
Bau Ur: audio quality is still poor, alas, true.
Jokay Wollongong: there’s a free version mimi
Mimi Muircastle: ty
Marmottina Taurog: Coyright is a problem for VWs at the moment, look at what happened recently..
Jenny Oliver: I’m glad there’ll be a transcript of this! So many links! ty
Mimi Muircastle: oh yes, the Frank LLoyd Wright is so sad
Mimi Muircastle: *situation
Coyote Longfall: yes
Marmottina Taurog: Yes that’s what is so good sharing !
Da5id Zsigmond: There must be more to the FMod api they have, just haven’t implemented.
Jadyn Firehawk: jadyn firehawk… photographer, builder, former professor, disability advocate
Da5id Zsigmond: The 10 sec sample limit is a real pain.
Ange Menges: Coyote, did you tried zbrush ? Path can give you a name perhaps. We have seen a nice presentation on reaction grid.
Pathfinder Lester: yes, the recent issue with the FLW museum is very sad.
Mimi Muircastle: photography rocks:)
Marmottina Taurog: yes samples are too short !
Coyote Longfall: so many companies are so short-sighted about intellectual property, so many don’t realized that the definitions are changing under our feet
Marmottina Taurog: Photography does indeed rock ! 🙂
Jokay Wollongong: Agree Coyote
Coyote Longfall: *realize
Jenny Oliver: DaSid – can’t you link the samples?
Bau Ur: Coyote: damn right.
Patnad Babii: yea samples can be linked but sometimes with lag and delay it is a PITA 😀
Da5id Zsigmond: There isn’t really a way to do that except with a timer and then you are dependent on all other lag issues.
Jenny Oliver: Ah – point taken 😦
Pathfinder Lester: the challenge is finding a balance… a balance between allowing content to distribute to raise awareness, and making sure content creators have control over their creations.
Da5id Zsigmond: Just cause you start a timer doesn’t mean the sample is loaded yet. lol
Patnad Babii: ive been doing a demo album for a SL rock band called Spacejunky
Pathfinder Lester: we haven’t found that balance yet in virtual worlds.
Bau Ur: Patnad, I’v love to hear it.
Da5id Zsigmond: Just a flag that said this particular sample is finished would be a blessing.
Mimi Muircastle: Path, Jokay, is anyone exploring having building classes on these grids as there are/were in SL?
Marmottina Taurog: Path, you have hit the nail on the head with your content comment
Coyote Longfall: opensource is the beginning of trying to find a way through that minefield (sorry for the war metaphor)
Patnad Babii: it works good when just a few ppl hit a sim, but when it have many avatar, well sometime the sound break
Marmottina Taurog: It does feel like war ! 🙂
Jokay Wollongong: We will def run some building classes in the new year Marmottina..
Mimi Muircastle: it is a minefield
Bau Ur: Coyote: prickley pear patch 🙂
Jadyn Firehawk: so is the cc license, trying to make a way through the minefield
Jokay Wollongong: and i know RG do some too 😉
Jenny Oliver: btw, I’m Jenny in RL and on OpenSims, but coordinator of Space Destiny on SL where I’m Silviana.
Mimi Muircastle: Marmottina? here in JK?
Pathfinder Lester: Coyote, it’s definitely a minefield in many ways. i like to use the metaphor of fire, tho.
Coyote Longfall: that’s a good one
Mimi Muircastle: too hot to touch !
Pathfinder Lester: fire is powerful, and helps in many ways. but can also burn your house down. 😛
Marmottina Taurog: Mimi, content ? it’s war fare
Bau Ur: sings Johnny Cash “ring of Fire” melodramatically.
Marmottina Taurog: I was the victim of pirating recently
Jokay Wollongong: oh sorry mimi.. im half asleep. you asked that question.. and yes.. on jgrid.. volunteers who’d like to run them are welcome to contact me 😉
Mimi Muircastle: got it Jokay – fast convo this am
Bau Ur: Did everyone get to intorduce themselves?
Pathfinder Lester: trick isn’t to remove fire from the world. trick is to channel it and have appropriate controls (like fire engines…lol)
Marmottina Taurog: yes I agree
Mimi Muircastle: true Path
Bau Ur: Did everyone realize they were invited to introduce themselves? :)….newcomers?
Pathfinder Lester: Bau, good point.
Coyote Longfall: We haven’t seen the end of casualties, in the information revolution
Pathfinder Lester: plesae, if you haven’t already. just jump in and intoduce yourself 🙂
Mimi Muircastle: balance between need to earn a living in some cases and giving/sharing ideas
Jadyn Firehawk: oh i should also say, i’m a geographer by profession
Ange Menges: Marmottina, second life in the place where I found the most copyright infrigments, lol
Pathfinder Lester nods at Mimi
Marmottina Taurog: Ange, I’m not surprised !
Bau Ur: The purpose of copyright and patent is to *promote* progress and creativity by assuring that creators have a chance to reap reqards of their originality. Current direction of copyright law actually destroys and represses. It is counterproductive to its own ends.
Ange Menges: If you use poser now, have a look to the DAZ3D models and you will relalize that you see them everywhere on second life
Mimi Muircastle: true, Bau
Pathfinder Lester: there’s one thing that I do that I think everyone can do right now to help with the challenge of copyright issues….
Jokay Wollongong: Agrees with Mimi.. its a fine balance for all content creators… we are hoping we can pay some content creators to create some creative commons licensed works for release on the grid.. in the hopes that taking a positive approach will encourage all to respect licenses
Pathfinder Lester: I always keep note of where exaclty I find freebies.
Coyote Longfall: I think it’s more of a problem for megacorporations, and for old-school brick & mortar institutions, than for regular people, though the frontier mentality is hurting them too sometimes
Mimi Muircastle: good idea Jokay
Jokay Wollongong: Good idea pathfinder… until we get persistant creator names..
Jadyn Firehawk: ty jenny 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: that way, if I find the content is illegally copied, I know where I got it from.
Jokay Wollongong: being able to trace something back is waaay handy
Marmottina Taurog: Jokay, having stuff that’s licenced is probably the way forward
Pathfinder Lester: Jokay, exactly.
Ange Menges: And when we will have meshes, it will be worse, lol
Mimi Muircastle: agree, Marnottina
Pathfinder Lester: it takes a bit more work keeping notes on stuff like that, but I think it’s impoortant enough for me to spend the time to do that.
Bau Ur: AH, yes, i usually contact freebie creators to thank them and if they say “UM, no, I didn’t give that thing away freely” I know to tell them there’s a problem.
Marmottina Taurog: I did write a license for my stuff on Reaction Grid
Jenny Oliver: Sensible, Pathfinder
Pathfinder Lester: Bau, oh that’s an even better idea.
Mimi Muircastle: and that time honors the original creator
Marmottina Taurog: That’s sounds good Bau
Pathfinder Lester: also, I know that Diva Canto (one of the core Opensim developers) is adding a feature so that original content creator names wil be retained in OAR files. that’s a BIG help.
Mimi Muircastle: (sounds kind of religious)
Jokay Wollongong: Agrees Path.. massive step forward..
Jadyn Firehawk: i don’t know if everyone knows about the Creative Commons license? if freebie creators put this license on their works, it’s a convenient shorthand that says “free to share” or “free to share with attribution”
Bau Ur: Well if everyone did it, freebie creators would be annoyed and overwhelmed with thanks. But the world does not tend to excesses of gratitude, so there seems to be no problem.
Pathfinder Lester: Bau, you are so right! lol
Pathfinder Lester: i WANT the world to have that “problem” 😉
Mimi Muircastle: good problem to have!
Bau Ur: Yay Diva! That is much needed and has been a totally obvious need since the inception of SL (grumble)
Jokay Wollongong: Agree with that too Jadyn.. i use CC licenses all the time.. and in fact have used them to stop people from selling my content on ebay twice 😉
Marmottina Taurog: an excess o gratitude would be hard to achieve ! 🙂
Bau Ur: It would be great to be able to search inventory by item creator.
Mimi Muircastle: but worth trying!
Bau Ur: 🙂 Mimi
Jenny Oliver: One for the developers, there, Bau!
Coyote Longfall: I think open source creations are the way to go, and I think that there’s a fundamental disagreement between traditional intellectual property ideas, and new ones, and I think it may be partly generational in nature
Coyote Longfall: Creative Commons is awesome
Pathfinder Lester: the fact that we all are thinking about these issues and having this discussion right now gives me a lot of hope for the future. we are all pioneers right now, and we’re setting the stage for the future.
Mimi Muircastle: careful, some of us are *older* and still get CC
Mel Blauvelt: I tend to agree there Coyote
Pathfinder Lester: so this kind of discussion right now is cruicial.
Ange Menges: Bau I had some years ago to stop my 3D free models because I had too much business people harassing me and saying I was killing them 🙂
Jenny Oliver: I’m particularly interested in this, as I hope to use my island here for idea generation / creation.
Coyote Longfall: Mimi: me too – my av looks a lot like me in RL
Jenny Oliver: Who owns what?
Mimi Muircastle: 🙂 just sayin’
Bau Ur: how strange ANge. What odd people, to think that *you* owed them noncompetition…where by their own system, competition is okay.
Da5id Zsigmond: An asset server that wasn’t attached to any particular grid would be one approach.
Jenny Oliver: Sorry – we need to know ‘who owns what’!
Mimi Muircastle: I agree Jenny
Bau Ur: DaSid isn’t that possibe?
Pathfinder Lester: Jenny, I would add “who owns what, and what’s the exact license for this specific object”
Mimi Muircastle: with the *right* to share or not
Marmottina Taurog: yes that sounds good
Jenny Oliver: Especially where ideas are concerned – a tricky issue. I’m currently looking at various ‘crowd sourcing’ sites, Innocentive being one.
Da5id Zsigmond: It should or maybe will be – was just reading about some of that on the OpenSim wiki and (I’ve forgotten the name of the org)
Pathfinder Lester: While you all are chatting, I will hand out a notecard with today’s itinerary.

— Contents of Notecard —
Before doing any Hypergrid jumps, be sure you have set your Home location and have relogged since you set it.  If you don’t, Hypergrid jumps will not work.  This appears to be a bug.

Many people find the Imprudence viewer to be very good for using with both SL and other grids.  You can find it here: http://imprudenceviewer.org/

*** How to make Manual Hypergrid Jumps in 4 easy steps ***
1) Open your World Map.
2) In the text box next to the Search button, enter the Hypergrid Address.
3) Click the Search button and wait for the map to move to the jump region.
4) Click the Teleport button.

*** Our Starting Location ***
Hypergrid Address: 66.240.233.81:9001:pathlandia
Region Name: “Pathlandia”
Grid Location: jokaydiaGRID (Lower)
Grid Website: http://jokaydiagrid.com

************************

Hypergrid Jump #1
Hypergrid Address: hypergrid.reactiongrid.com:9009
Region Name: “HG Gateway 1”
Grid Location: ReactionGrid (Middle)
Grid Website: http://reactiongrid.com

We’ll be making this jump using one of the instant Hypergates on Pathlandia.  It’s the stone archway next to the Tardis..   Just walk up to the archway and walk through it.  You will automatically make a Hypergrid jump to “HG Gateway 1.”  For more information on how these instant Hypergates work, see:
https://becunningandfulloftricks.com/2010/10/29/the-metaphor-of-portals/

“HG Gateway 1” is a handy jump point in the “middle” of the Hypergrid.

Hypergrid Jump #2
Hypergrid Address: 91.121.136.199:9200
Region Name: “Quebec”
Grid Location:  FrancoGrid (Upper)
Grid Website: http://francogrid.org

This will be a Manual Hypergrid jump.  Follow the 4 steps at the top of this notecard.

This region features a library with interactive 3D exhibits, a planetarium with a UFO exhibit, a movie theater, apartment buildings, and a replica of the Pont de Québec bridge.  Voice is enabled on this region, so we can speak to each other on this part of the tour.

***
jokaydiaGRID has a Newbie Dome for folks to pick up freebies that can help them get started.  If you find any good freebies in your Hypergrid travels that you’d like to share, you can put them in the Newbie Dome.   There’s currently a lack of many good outfits and items for male avatars, so it would be great if we could find more items like that to share.
— End of Notecard —

Oronoque Westland: “owner” does not always equal “creator” as colonized people are well aware
Da5id Zsigmond: lol
Mimi Muircastle: crowdsourcing changes the game
Jenny Oliver: This is so true, Oronoque
Marmottina Taurog: what is crowdsourcing ?
Mimi Muircastle: putting an idea out to a crowd to formulate, develop etc
Marmottina Taurog: ah yes I see 🙂 ty
Mimi Muircastle: twitter is great for that!
Marmottina Taurog: yes it is !
Jenny Oliver: Famous historictal precedent – The WC – ‘Crapper’ – was the manufacturer, not the inventor, etc
Mimi Muircastle: great and funny example, Jenny
Pathfinder Lester: ha!
Da5id Zsigmond: Who was the inventor??
Pathfinder Lester: really?
Jenny Oliver: I really don’t know!
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Jokay Wollongong: lolz.. someone fire up wikipedia 😉
Jenny Oliver: It is often quoted in courses on design and innovation.
Coyote Longfall: What about other types of information, besides intellectual property – Wikileaks, for example, and the recent pressure on their funding sources?
Oronoque Westland: Eli Whitney (of cotton gin fame) patented the inventions made by his human property
Jenny Oliver: :)))
Bau Ur: Jaky speaking of gratitude — thank you for hosting here. Thank you for creating this little world with your objectives.
Pathfinder Lester: oh boy, that’s a whole other huge conversation Coyote. 😉
Mimi Muircastle: the whole concept of wiki leaks is fascinating! and true, Pathfinder
Jenny Oliver: I think this might be a ‘wait and see which way the cookie crumbles’ re Wikileaks!
Ange Menges: No please Coyote, lol : they are in france now and the newspapers are full !
Da5id Zsigmond: I’ve been checking some of the latest wiki leaks – there’s some interesting info there.
Pathfinder Lester: if anyone didn’t get the notecard for today’s tour, please let me know.
Mimi Muircastle: thanks for saying that Bau – I feel the same way, Jokay!
Jokay Wollongong: aww thanks bau and mimi.. its a joy to watch the grid grow 😉
Jenny Oliver: Same here!
Mimi Muircastle: I bet!
Oronoque Westland: Jokay is the best!
Marmottina Taurog: Yes I might even get myself a little patch of land here ! It feels good !
Mimi Muircastle: I especially love my 20K prims
Jenny Oliver: Space Destiny on SL is going to run out of fundsin March
Pathfinder Lester: Jokay, yes, thank you again for your tireless work to help this grid grow.
Jenny Oliver: I’m so glad to be here!
Da5id Zsigmond: Have to start a new building approach with so many prims.
Da5id Zsigmond: Not used to it.
Mimi Muircastle: new approach is easy!
Jadyn Firehawk: I♥PRIMS
Jokay Wollongong: its really super fun watching the collaboration and creativity happening around here… most days i catch someone sharing/showing something to someone
Bau Ur: 🙂 Ridiculous thngs have been happening as I attempt to build here . At least they are funny.
Jokay Wollongong: Hehe.. oh hang in there Bau… we have our opensim moments.. lolz
Pathfinder Lester: so, for today’s tour, we’re going to be heading to “Quebec” on FrancoGrid. and the neat thing is that Quebec has voice enabled. so we can test that out if you like.
Mimi Muircastle: and you learn in the midst of it Bau!
Jenny Oliver: Path – re Imprudence : I’ve a slightly techie question. When I originally hh’d to the hub, I could search and hop. Now the hopping won’t work, and my map only shows the hub. Is there a chance I may need to re-install my browser?. I’ve seen map-jumbles on other HH activity, too.
Bau Ur: “Build ” meaning, even makiing a hat.
Da5id Zsigmond: The different viewers give me different bugs. Hippo likes to make things disappear from viewer after moving them. lol
Pathfinder Lester: Jenny, hmmm
Patnad Babii: oww quebec is where i come from ^^
Patnad Babii: in RL i mean ahah
Da5id Zsigmond: Have to select other things to get them back.
Pathfinder Lester: might have been a temporary glitch. i don’t think you’ll need to reinstall anything.
Coyote Longfall: has anybody noticed on Opensim grids that sometimes when modifying a linkset, that one prim will jump away 500 meters? I’ts happened to me on several grids
Pathfinder Lester: but if it is a consistent problem, let me know.
Patnad Babii: come visit my province 😀
Jenny Oliver: OK, thanks.
Jenny Oliver: Will chat about it later, Path. Thanks.
Da5id Zsigmond: lol
Pathfinder Lester: also, sometimes when you hypergrid jump around, the world map does not fully load if you open it too quickly after you arrive at a new grid.
Pathfinder Lester: so my rule of thumb is “wait 30 s before opening world map after jumping ot a new grid”
Bau Ur: laughing and shaking head at the arbitrariness of bugs 🙂
Mimi Muircastle: I made it to German grid on my own, mostly!
Da5id Zsigmond: In Imprudence moving things often turns them phantom. which is funny if you’re standing on them.
Pathfinder Lester: Patnad, have you set your home region? you’ll need to do that before making any jumps today.
Patnad Babii: oh yes good idea
Patnad Babii: ill set it right here
Pathfinder Lester: ok
Bau Ur: It’s okay with you if we set Home here, Pathfinder?
Pathfinder Lester: Bau, sure. that’s fine
Pathfinder Lester: be my guest 🙂
Da5id Zsigmond: I think you have to relog after that – don’t you ??
Mimi Muircastle: yes, relog
Pathfinder Lester: Patnad, you’ll have to relog after you’ve set it for the first time too.
Jokay Wollongong: yup it usually needs a relog to make it stick
Patnad Babii: ok thanks for helping the noobs 😉
Pathfinder Lester: but once you’ve set your home and relogged since then, it will stick.
Jenny Oliver: (Anyone here explore and end up in Permutation ? 😉 )
Patnad Babii: brb
Pathfinder Lester: Patnad, that’s the whole purpose of our club. 😀
Mimi Muircastle: Permutation?
Oronoque Westland: I also try to reduce any prims that I am wearing
Jokay Wollongong: Yeah Jenny.. there’s an odd hypergrid glitch..
Jenny Oliver: Path’s place (one of) on RG
Jokay Wollongong: which means sometimes you get shot over to Core 1 or permutation
Jokay Wollongong: we wil work on it again with RG peeps on Tuesday
Pathfinder Lester: I have a region on the ReactionGrid public grid
Pathfinder Lester: called Permutation
Jokay Wollongong: it makes for some fun bounces sometimes
Coyote Longfall: oh that’s what happened to my hair last week
Pathfinder Lester: but Pathlandia here on jokaydiaGRID is really my home base.
Jenny Oliver: I think this is deliberate 🙂 Gate says so!
Ange Menges: Well, I go, Path. Wait for you on francogrid 🙂
Jenny Oliver: Neat trick Path! Quite freaky!
Jokay Wollongong: hehe
Oronoque Westland: Permutation sucks us in sometimes lol
Pathfinder Lester: see you Ange!
Pathfinder Lester: ok
Pathfinder Lester: this gate i’m standing next to
Pathfinder Lester: we can all walk thru it. it’s our first jump
Pathfinder Lester: just queue up and walk thru it one at a time
Bau Ur: The special effects are fun 🙂
Jokay Wollongong: hehe.. now that was a flashy exit.. lolz

We walk through an Instant Hypergate on the region Pathlandia on jokaydiaGRID.

And we arrive on the region HG Gateway 1 on ReactionGrid.

Pathfinder Lester: woot!
Pathfinder Lester: Patnad, we’ve jumped from jokaydiaGRID to ReactionGrid.
Pathfinder Lester: you are now an official Hypernaut on Opensim. 🙂
Patnad Babii: ahah yay, it become pretty easy now
Coyote Longfall: can’t have multi-grid groups…. yet.
Pathfinder Lester: so now….
Pathfinder Lester: we make a manual jump from here (reactiongrid) to francogrid
Pathfinder Lester: *** How to make Hypergrid Jumps in 4 easy steps ***
1) Open your World Map.
2) In the text box next to the Search button, enter the Hypergrid Address.
3) Click the Search button and wait for the map to move to the jump region.
4) Click the Teleport button.
Bau Ur: tee shirts accomplish it too.
Pathfinder Lester: and the address we’re going to is:
Pathfinder Lester: 91.121.136.199:9200
Pathfinder Lester: I’ll wait for folks to jump
visitors in this region)

We make a Manual Hypergrid Jump from the region HG Gateway 1 on ReactionGrid and arrive on the region Quebec on FrancoGrid.

Mel Blauvelt: heya Kareltje!
kareltje Krasker: salut a tous

Ange Menges: Coucou Karel
Jenny Oliver: 😀
Marmottina Taurog: I hear voice !
Patnad Babii: bonjour 🙂
Bau Ur: I hope Torley still enjoys seeig the uses of his textures. It was such a great gift to SL creativity, that he made them available.
Zola Zsun: i can hear you
Zola Zsun: but cant type
Zola Zsun: lol
Pathfinder Lester: hmm
Bau Ur: HI Karel. Original avatar 🙂
Mimi Muircastle: torley and his textures and windlight are amazing
Pathfinder Lester: might be a little lag at first
Pathfinder Lester: hi kareltje!
kareltje Krasker: thx Baeu
kareltje Krasker: Hi Pathfinder
Mimi Muircastle: I seee a merry go round!
Pathfinder Lester: welcome to Francogrid everyone 🙂

Mel Blauvelt: Alina, est-ce que je suis une pipe?
Marmottina Taurog: hahahaha Mel !
Ange Menges: mel ! lol
Jenny Oliver: lol
Pathfinder Lester: we’ve got a bit of chat lag, but that happens sometimes. there are many of us here now!
Da5id Zsigmond: we need a Monty Python translator – says what you are thinking. !
Bau Ur: viva la company! 🙂
Oronoque Westland: I have put on my translator
Patnad Babii: im impress on how far opensim pushed the hypergrid so far
Jenny Oliver: Votre ile est merveilleuse
Patnad Babii: too bad SL is not a part in this
Bau Ur: It’s developing fast now, hurrah.
Marmottina Taurog: yes
Zola Zsun: sl will have to eventually not be walled off or no one will go there 🙂
Patnad Babii: oui j’aime bien l’ile du quebec, c’Est la premiere fois je vien la visiter
Mimi Muircastle: too true zola
Zola Zsun: 🙂
kareltje Krasker: so we will do a HG tour this evening ?
Patnad Babii: its the first time i visit Quebec and francogrid
Zola Zsun: me too Patnad
Pathfinder Lester: kareltje, yes, another HG tour here at 10pm GMT
Mimi Muircastle: me too!
kareltje Krasker: ok thx Pthfinder
Mel Blauvelt: library spotted guys, let the stampede begin!
kareltje Krasker: I sometimes loos my way between the gates 🙂
Bau Ur: Librrary? Where??!

Bau Ur: Interesting secular stained glass, with the image of a book occupying the position that might be expected to have a saint.
Jenny Oliver: I must go now, anyway. I’ll certainly be back later, and might bring a colleague!
Bau Ur: a pity the region isn’t more robust. There are few besides ourselves here. What is the normal avatar limit in the Reaction Grid?
Pathfinder Lester: take care everyone!
Mimi Muircastle: I am staying to explore if anyone wants to join me!

Da5id Zsigmond: by pathfinder – thx again.
Pathfinder Lester: we have a 2nd HG meeting today at 10pm GMT. we’ll come here again then.
Mimi Muircastle: thanks as always Pathfinder!
Pathfinder Lester: my pleasure. take care.

That’s the end of our first meeting on Sunday.  Read on for our second exploration!

Pim Peccable: Our host is here!
Delenn Daines: Hi Pathfinder!
Pathfinder Lester: hi everyone!
Pathfinder Lester: how’s everyone doing today?
Johnnie Waugh: Good thanks…
Pim Peccable: little tired, but I’ll make it 🙂
Delenn Daines: well I hope I am dressed, just got a message that the database could not find a body part! he he
Pim Peccable: you look white actually.
Pathfinder Lester: Delenn, that happens now and then. usually it just fixes itself eventually.
Delenn Daines: interesting pim
Pim Peccable: it should load soon
Delenn Daines: I look fine on my screen
Johnnie Waugh: Greyon mine too, Delenn
Delenn Daines: i downloaded a different version of imprudence today, maybe that is it
Pathfinder Lester: what version are you using Delenn?
Pim Peccable: I should go do that
Johnnie Waugh: no there you are……. blue tee shirt and all
Pathfinder Lester: ah, there you go. Delenn, your av just loaded for me
Delenn Daines: something like ss2
Pim Peccable: any word from that team about kokua lately?
Pim Peccable: Welcome all
Pathfinder Lester: Neo, I noticed your present in my cornfield. I love it. 😀
Pathfinder Lester: take a peek at my cornfield. neo left some crop circle symbols in it.

Arwenna Stardust: I see them! 🙂
Cider Jack: haha no cornfield should be without one
Pim Peccable: I saw that. It IS a very nice touch
Neo Cortex: hmm, Pathfinder… somehow i remebered something you said about corn circles 😉
Pathfinder Lester: I guess I should be expecting aliens abducting my cows next…
Johnnie Waugh: hmmm so the aliens know where to come pathfinder?
Pathfinder Lester: Johnnie, i think so!
Pathfinder Lester: prepare for an invasion!
Pim Peccable: there is a saucer in the next sim
Cider Jack: judging by the cow’s eyes, I’d say they already look like they’ve been abducted
Arwenna Stardust: not aliens Path – just your neighbours!
Johnnie Waugh whispers: *smiles*…….. you don’t know it but is how they will stage it…they are probably here already…virtually *grin*
Pathfinder Lester: oh boy
Pathfinder Lester: i better lock my doors
Arwenna Stardust: haha John – lurking in cornfields!
Neo Cortex: lol… do you really think locked doors could keep real aliens out?
Pathfinder Lester: hrm. good point
Pathfinder Lester: i better just put out milk and cookies and accept ’em as guests.
Arwenna Stardust: Maybe we are all aliens
Arwenna Stardust: we just dont know it yet!
Pim Peccable: watch them be lactose intolerant
Arwenna Stardust: puts a whole new meaning on” no such things as strangers only unmet friends”
Neo Cortex: maybe i should make a necklace with that corn circle emblem….
Angelle AARISS: And some earrings, please
Cider Jack: some friends are stranger than others
Angelle AARISS: I mean as long as you’re at it
Pathfinder Lester: that would be cool. i’d wear it.
Arwenna Stardust: oh I have some earrings Angelle – would you like some?
Pim Peccable: strange friends are often the best ones
Angelle AARISS: That would be nice, Arwenna. Smaller prims in here will really be appreciated for those making jewelry
Pathfinder Lester: ok, i’ll kick things off. Welcome to the Hypergrid Adventurers Club! Thank you all for joining us today.
Pathfinder Lester: The first 30 min of each meeting is spent on introductions and an open discussion.
Cider Jack: give ’em a patch, and they’ll take a field
Pathfinder Lester: And for the second 30 min of each meeting, we will make some Hypergrid jumps to visit and explore an interesting location on the Hypergrid.
Angelle AARISS: Thanks, Arwenna !
Pathfinder Lester: To start, everyone please jump in and say a few words about yourself and your projects/interests in open chat. This is always a good opportunity for networking. 🙂
Arwenna Stardust: my pleasure 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: I post a full report and transcript of each meeting’s open chat on my blog, so this is also a chance for you to share information with everyone who reads the blog.
Pathfinder Lester: And if you say anything in open chat that you would NOT like to be posted on my blog, please just say so in chat and I will redact your comments.
Delenn Daines: I am a science educator and am interested in using virtual worlds with college students
Cider Jack: Hello! I’m part owner/builder of the Applewood sim here on Jokaydiagrid along with Arwenna Stardust. After spending over three great years in SL I’m glad to find an OS grid to call my new home. 🙂 I’m here because I enjoy building, and welcome inspiration from all sources. Perpetually under development, Applewood is open for exploration – various freebies can be found scattered throughout the sim! More will continually be added as time and inspiration allow…
Oronoque Westland: college/university teacher
Arwenna Stardust: IT lecturer from New Zealand – was co-leader of the slenz project http://slenz.wordpress.com – now chairing our latest initiative VLENZ http://vlenz.edumuve.ac.nz
Arwenna Stardust: I live mostly on Jokaydiagrid but also in SL and NZVWG
Pathfinder Lester: Arwenna, I’ve been exploring your space here. I love the poems.
Pim Peccable: I currently work in a call center, but would love to collaborate on projects in VW like education. my not-no-secret dream is to work in VW
Arwenna Stardust: thank you Path
Arwenna Stardust: there will be lots more
Pathfinder Lester: And I found the rabbit Fiver. 🙂
Arwenna Stardust: yes!!!
Arwenna Stardust: Bigwig is out there somewhere too
Pathfinder Lester: !!!
Pathfinder Lester: oh i’ll have to search for him.
Arwenna Stardust: 🙂
Neo Cortex: Hi, i am an Unix/Linux admin and explore the possibilities of opensim, my sims are usually connected to osgrid or standalone as hypergrid enabled ones. If you have any question about setting one up, just ask me…
Johnnie Waugh: I’m a member of Virtual Life Education New Zealand, shipbuilder, hyperjaunter in OpenSimVersion HG 1.5, resident of SL, creator of Andelain in OS V7/HG1.5 NZVWG (akl.nz.nzvwg.org:8002.Andelain) and general bon vivant
Pathfinder Lester: Neo, maybe one club meeting we could jump to one of your hypergrid enabled standalone grids and visit you?
Neo Cortex: @Pim… you know VW (Volkswagen) is a big company here in germany? ^^
Johnnie Waugh: Neo when is Osgrid going to to get its outwards Hypergates working again
Neo Cortex: @Johnny.. if i only knew
Pim Peccable: I remember farfavnugen. I meant Virtual Worlds 🙂
Neo Cortex: i hope they will upgrade to the upcoming 0.7.1 release
Pathfinder Lester: Yeah, the hypergrid is a bit fragmented right now.
Neo Cortex: that should at least bring the Diva distro and osgrid back together
Johnnie Waugh: yes….. Iam having no problems in OS 7 grids…. except for Osgrid
Neo Cortex: @Path: i am not sure if my sim can stand the load of the whole hgac
Arwenna Stardust: looks ofrward to when we will be sitting here and reminisicing about how it used to be in the bad old days of hypergridding!
Angelle AARISS: So one is not able to hypergrid from OSgrid now?
Pathfinder Lester: Neo, well, we could help you “stress test” your grid. 😉
Neo Cortex: it is running on a small VPS with just one GB memory
Pathfinder Lester: ah, gotcha
Angelle AARISS: LOL Hear hear, Arwenna !
Arwenna Stardust: 🙂
Pim Peccable: sounds like my system 🙂
Neo Cortex: sure, since i have full console access i can monitor and watch the crash ^^
Neo Cortex: but if we want to jump from here i need to start the older hg 1.0 version
Cider Jack: I’m looking forward to when the idea of a HG “club” will seem quaint
Delenn Daines: is there an inworld group for the adventureres club?
Pathfinder Lester: Cider, absolutely. 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: Delenn, funny you should ask!
Jenny Oliver: Jenny in RL and here, Silviana Jenvieve in SL and coordinator of Space Destiny in SL, owner of Midrivers Project island here. Scientist in RL but inexorably being drawn into VW
Pathfinder Lester: ReactionGrid just finished working on Groups

Details on ReactionGrid’s release of groups can be found on this Press Release, this article on HypergridBusiness.com, and Chris Hart’s (ReactionGrid CTO) email to the OpenSim Users mailing list.

Pathfinder Lester: and we’ll be rolling them out for all of ReactionGrid’s hosted grids and the ReactionGrid public grid in the next couple weeks.
Cider Jack: woot! Groups!
Pim Peccable: nice to hear
Jenny Oliver: I’d like to see groups working / working properly!
Angelle AARISS: Kudos to the RG Ninja Team !
Pathfinder Lester: so once Groups are all set up, I’ll make a HGAC inworld group for us all. 😀
Pathfinder Lester: we’re also releasing it as open source, so folks can integrate it into the Opensim code however they like.
Pathfinder Lester: so other grids can use it.
Arwenna Stardust: will be so happy with she can join/start groups 🙂
Jenny Oliver: EXcellent!
Angelle AARISS: Maybe develop it further, too !
Pathfinder Lester: me too Arwenna
Angelle AARISS: Very cool !
Pathfinder Lester: and our Groups code will also work with our “Jibe” platform. our web-based virtual world platform.
Angelle AARISS: Yah !!!
Pathfinder Lester: so that’s exciting 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: Robin Heyden wrote a nice summary of her testing out Jibe: http://robinheyden.wordpress.com/2010/10/24/another-online-virtual-world-jibe/
Arwenna Stardust: I need to look at that – over the holdiay period
Pim Peccable: web-based? as in browser compatible?
Pathfinder Lester: Pim, yes
Pathfinder Lester: and we now have voice working in it as well.
Arwenna Stardust: hmmm now that sounds cool!
Pim Peccable: leaps and bounds
Pathfinder Lester: perhaps at a future HGAC meeting I’ll take everyone on a quick tour of Jibe
Arwenna Stardust: that would be appreciated Path
Neo Cortex: cool idea
Pathfinder Lester: it’s still beta, but improving every day.
Cider Jack: more than just jibe-talking, presumably
Angelle AARISS: That will be fun, Pathfinder
Jenny Oliver: My experience of web-based VW browsers so far has not been particularly good
Neo Cortex: Are there any plans to go exploring the hg 1.5 world?
Pathfinder Lester: and we had a big meeting this past week in Jibe with about 40 people in a space. voice and everything else worked great. no lag.
Pim Peccable: Someond had to say that – eh Cider? 🙂
Cider Jack: but of course 😉
Johnnie Waugh: Notice that VirtualExchange is working on OpenSim 7 grids, in association with Linden Labs so lots of version 7 sims are commercial.
Pathfinder Lester: Neo, i’d like to do that. we’d just all have to get accounts on an hg 1.5 grid to do that.
Pathfinder Lester: greetings Jackson
Pathfinder Lester: welcome to our club!
Jenny Oliver: Jackson! Welcome – folks, this is my colleague on Midrivers
Pathfinder Lester: great to meet you Jackson
Jackson Drechsler: Hi all
Johnnie Waugh: hi Jackson
Pim Peccable: Good to meet ya
Neo Cortex: everyone starting form a recent Diva distro might use her/his own home base…
Neo Cortex: and we might eventually set up one dedicated hgac home base
Pathfinder Lester: Neo, let’s definitely talk about how we could do that for a future HGAC meeting. Ping me on email and we can figure out the logistics. pathfinder@reactiongrid.com
Neo Cortex: yep. will do
Pathfinder Lester: i think everyone would love to explore more grids that way.
Angelle AARISS: Adventures await. Sounds interesting for us all.
Angelle AARISS: Lots of fun too
Pathfinder Lester: i’m going to pass out todays notecard itinerary now while you all chat.

— Contents of Notecard —
Before doing any Hypergrid jumps, be sure you have set your Home location and have relogged since you set it.  If you don’t, Hypergrid jumps will not work.  This appears to be a bug.

Many people find the Imprudence viewer to be very good for using with both SL and other grids.  You can find it here: http://imprudenceviewer.org/

*** How to make Manual Hypergrid Jumps in 4 easy steps ***
1) Open your World Map.
2) In the text box next to the Search button, enter the Hypergrid Address.
3) Click the Search button and wait for the map to move to the jump region.
4) Click the Teleport button.

*** Our Starting Location ***
Hypergrid Address: 66.240.233.81:9001:pathlandia
Region Name: “Pathlandia”
Grid Location: jokaydiaGRID (Lower)
Grid Website: http://jokaydiagrid.com

************************

Hypergrid Jump #1
Hypergrid Address: hypergrid.reactiongrid.com:9009
Region Name: “HG Gateway 1”
Grid Location: ReactionGrid (Middle)
Grid Website: http://reactiongrid.com

We’ll be making this jump using one of the instant Hypergates on Pathlandia.  It’s the stone archway next to the Tardis..   Just walk up to the archway and walk through it.  You will automatically make a Hypergrid jump to “HG Gateway 1.”  For more information on how these instant Hypergates work, see:
https://becunningandfulloftricks.com/2010/10/29/the-metaphor-of-portals/

“HG Gateway 1” is a handy jump point in the “middle” of the Hypergrid.

Hypergrid Jump #2
Hypergrid Address: 91.121.136.199:9200
Region Name: “Quebec”
Grid Location:  FrancoGrid (Upper)
Grid Website: http://francogrid.org

This will be a Manual Hypergrid jump.  Follow the 4 steps at the top of this notecard.

This region features a library with interactive 3D exhibits, a planetarium with a UFO exhibit, a movie theater, apartment buildings, and a replica of the Pont de Québec bridge.  Voice is enabled on this region, so we can speak to each other on this part of the tour.

***
jokaydiaGRID has a Newbie Dome for folks to pick up freebies that can help them get started.  If you find any good freebies in your Hypergrid travels that you’d like to share, you can put them in the Newbie Dome.   There’s currently a lack of many good outfits and items for male avatars, so it would be great if we could find more items like that to share.
— End of Notecard —

Pim Peccable: practice your “we come in peace” speeches too, folks
Arwenna Stardust: Curiosity……..to boldly go…. 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: i should be wearing the “Hypernaut Helmet” that jokay left for us next to the campfire
Johnnie Waugh: Notice oro cannot breath this virtual air so she must definitely be an alien
Cider Jack: “Have you got a flag?”
Arwenna Stardust: grins at Oronoque
Pathfinder Lester: speaking of flags, some folks from Finland planted a finnish flag on one of the mountains here on Pathlandia. so i think this land is now claimed by Finland.

Pathfinder Lester: today we’re going to go to FrancoGrid and explore a region called “Quebec”
Pathfinder Lester: lots of freebies and interesting things to see on it. and the region has voice enabled, so we can try that out.
Pathfinder Lester: Neo, no worries
Oronoque Westland: I will try again
Neo Cortex: i visited Quebec this afternoon
Oronoque Westland: have my translator on this time
Pathfinder Lester: i think we overloaded the region a bit earlier today
Pathfinder Lester: but our group now is a bit smaller, so hopefully things will be ok.
Neo Cortex: yep, i was there after your visit… felt like walking in molasses
Pathfinder Lester: that’s the thing about jumping to other grids and regions….you never know how powerful the server is behind it all. it can vary a loty.
Arwenna Stardust: btw Path – those of us downunder do appreciate this friendly time 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: Arwenna, oh you’re welcome. happy this time works for you.
Johnnie Waugh: true and thanks for doing two meetings..
Arwenna Stardust: 🙂
Cider Jack: aye, what Arwenna said!
Delenn Daines: what time of the day is it for you Arwenna?
Arwenna Stardust: 11.25am
Arwenna Stardust: Monday morning
Oronoque Westland: 11:25Am on Monday
Neo Cortex: 23:26 here in germany 😉
Delenn Daines: wow, it is 5:30 sunday evening for me
Angelle AARISS: Good morning to you, Arwenna
Arwenna Stardust: ty Angelle!
Jenny Oliver: 22:26 in UK
Pim Peccable: I hope Monday goes well, then
Pathfinder Lester: jackson, before we start our jumps, have you set your Home region?
Oronoque Westland: I hope it goes well to so I have something to look forward to
Jackson Drechsler: Yes, I think it works now
Pathfinder Lester: ok, cool
Arwenna Stardust: Well Sunday night was good – you will enjoy it! 🙂
Oronoque Westland: will I get a good night’s sleep?
Pathfinder Lester: if you get an error like “cannot authenticate avatar” when you try to jump, that usually means you have to set your home location.
Arwenna Stardust: yes I think so!
Oronoque Westland: good, thanks
Arwenna Stardust: 🙂
Oronoque Westland: is it ever tomorrow, today and yesterday at the same moment?
Pathfinder Lester: my head is spinning
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Arwenna Stardust: all the time Oro!
Delenn Daines: he he Oro!
Cider Jack: It’s always happy hour somewhere…
Pim Peccable: Well, I know it is always Now
Pathfinder Lester: have you folks ever heard of those airplane tours some folks go on for new years?
Angelle AARISS: Very fitting for Earth, I think.
Pathfinder Lester: they fly across timezones, so you can celebrate new years multiple times in one evening. 😛
Johnnie Waugh: yes
Pathfinder Lester: must cost a lot tho
Pim Peccable: That does sound neat
Cider Jack: will be great when you can get a 24-hour NYE flight….
Arwenna Stardust: for us crossing the paicific is a bit like that
Oronoque Westland: love the evening flight westward so you can see the sunset twice
Arwenna Stardust: travel for 12 hours and arrive an hour after you left
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Pathfinder Lester: that’s just nuts
Arwenna Stardust: no timezones!
Pim Peccable: oh if you look west during the flight, you see a sunrise in the wrong place
Pathfinder Lester: crazy stuff
Pathfinder Lester: ok, let’s start our jumps!
Pathfinder Lester: here’s the gate
Pathfinder Lester: just walk thru one at a time
Cider Jack: haha the sparkles work!
Cider Jack: first I’ve got to see it 😉
Pim Peccable: the effect is a nice touch
Jenny Oliver: jackson, we need to go thrugh one at a time, so leave a few seconds between
Pathfinder Lester: it’s a beautiful effect
Pathfinder Lester: jackson, pls turn off your cellphone before entering.
Angelle AARISS: LOL
Pathfinder Lester: and remove all metal
Jenny Oliver: 🙂
Jackson Drechsler: ok 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: i’m totally serious
Angelle AARISS: Apres vous
Pathfinder Lester: i don’t want to have to do a patdown

We walk through an Instant Hypergate on the region Pathlandia on jokaydiaGRID.

And we arrive on the region HG Gateway 1 on ReactionGrid.

Pathfinder Lester: tadaa!
Pathfinder Lester: welcome to ReactionGrid
Pim Peccable: Some jumped ahead already )or crashed)
Angelle AARISS: Very good !!!
Pathfinder Lester: so now, a manual jump direct to Quebec on FrancoGrid
Jenny Oliver: You’ll need to open your map and type the destination in search.
Jackson Drechsler: ok
Pathfinder Lester: and the address is
Pim Peccable: here I go
Pathfinder Lester: 91.121.136.199:9200
Pathfinder Lester: if anyone has problems, just yell
Jackson Drechsler: ok! going
Pathfinder Lester: i’ll wait for everyone to make the jump

We all make a Manual Hypergrid Jump from the region HG Gateway 1 on ReactionGrid and arrive on the region Quebec on FrancoGrid.

Pathfinder Lester: woop!
Pathfinder Lester: made it
Cider Jack: I wonder how much lag this scripted lag meter causes lol
Pim Peccable: Yes, the irony of observing variables
Cider Jack: it’s way cool, but I can’t believe it’s light on resources
Cider Jack: haha yes, observation causes the observed to behave differently
Pathfinder Lester: i’m not sure if the voice is working
Delenn Daines: yes, I can hear someone
Pim Peccable: I though I heard noises before. your check is working
Pathfinder Lester: we might have broken things a bit with our larger group earlier
Arwenna Stardust: its a bit like the first telepone call!
Cider Jack: “Watson come here!”
Pathfinder Lester: i’m not sure what voice system they are using
strong>Angelle AARISS: I can hear you!!!
Angelle AARISS: Hi !!!
Pim Peccable: pretty clearly
Oronoque Westland: who is speaking?
Jenny Oliver: Sadly, not able to use voice this end – headset is broken!
Pathfinder Lester: no worries Jenny
Jenny Oliver: One ordered
Pathfinder Lester: So this region features a library with interactive 3D exhibits, a planetarium with a UFO exhibit, a movie theater, apartment buildings, and a replica of the Pont de Québec bridge.
Arwenna Stardust: just great to see that it is possible
Pathfinder Lester: this is a fun place to come back to and explore. and i often run in to other francogrid folks here.
Angelle AARISS: This is great !!!!
Jenny Oliver: I met Fabrice from FrancoGrid in Core1 RG the other day!
Pathfinder Lester: there’s a neat freebie carousel here too

Angelle AARISS: Does anyone know who designed the bridge?
Pathfinder Lester: Angelle, good question. I don’t know.
Pathfinder Lester: it’s a replica of the Pont de Québec bridge
Angelle AARISS: One very amazing structure

Pathfinder Lester: found some sausages for sale. but I cannot attest to their quality. they look a bit “off”.

Pim Peccable: this toilet does not allow much privacy, the door won’t stay closed when you are inside
Arwenna Stardust: waiting for my burger
Arwenna Stardust: 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: i don’t know about the “hippo” logo on the snack stand. does that mean it’s hippo meat?
Arwenna Stardust: hahaha!
Pim Peccable: you never know 🙂
Arwenna Stardust: never tried hippo meat!
Arwenna Stardust: might be a little imprudent!
Pim Peccable: I like keeping a food folder back in SL
Pim Peccable: it is so friendly to offer a useless item to people 😀
Pim Peccable: ils”: “invalid
Arwenna Stardust: haha Pim
Pathfinder Lester: haha! love it.
Angelle AARISS: LOL
Cider Jack: the Frites …..frightens me

Angelle AARISS: I think you would be a real kick at a fair, Pathfinder !
Pathfinder Lester: 😉
Pim Peccable: US workers call these “Roach Coaches” as I recall
Pim Peccable: ils”: “invalid
Pathfinder Lester: Pim, yes!
Cider Jack: glass floor, Path?
Angelle AARISS: Not so sure about that
Pathfinder Lester: i’m checking under the grill for health inspection
Angelle AARISS: Depends I would think on the maintenance manager or lack thereof.
Cider Jack: better alte than never! maybe that’s where they keep the baby hippos
Pathfinder Lester takes out a clipboard, frowns, and checks off something on the inspection form. not good.
Arwenna Stardust: decides to wait to bite her burger until Path has finished
Pim Peccable: not enough tomatoes?
Pathfinder Lester: yeah, that would be prudent, Arwenna
Cider Jack: no matter the results eh
Arwenna Stardust: 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: ok,it’s perfectly safe to eat here. enjoy your burgers.
Arwenna Stardust: lol!
Pathfinder Lester: just sign this waiver first.
Cider Jack: it has been deemed so, it must be true!
Cider Jack: Do they serve veggie burgers here?
Arwenna Stardust: signs anything
Cider Jack: Maybe I’ll just have a salad…
Angelle AARISS: LOl
Pathfinder Lester: probably a very good idea, Cider.
Pim Peccable: just post a sign, “biting food is an act of siging waiver”
Pathfinder Lester: Pim, excellent idea

Pathfinder Lester: close the door, sir!
Pathfinder Lester: it won’t stay closed while toilet is in use, i guess.
Cider Jack: I’m trying lol
Pathfinder Lester: nice “feature”
Cider Jack: it’s the spring action on the hinge….
Pim Peccable: you have to be REAL quick
Pim Peccable: ils”: “invalid
Arwenna Stardust: is really LOLling here
Cider Jack: LOL pim
Arwenna Stardust: too silly
Pathfinder Lester: Arwenna, me too. serious lols
Cider Jack: so hard to get a little privacy…
Arwenna Stardust: would you like a book Cider?
Cider Jack: got today’s newspaper?
Cider Jack: spare a square?

Pathfinder Lester: well, i’m afraid i have to head out.
Pathfinder Lester: my time is up.
Jackson Drechsler: Found the astronomy exhibit
Pathfinder Lester: hope this was fun for you all
Angelle AARISS: Thank you, Pathfinder !
Pim Peccable: have fun, Path
Arwenna Stardust: ty Path! great as always
Pim Peccable: Very! thanks
Pim Peccable: ils”: “invalid
Cider Jack: aye, ty path!
Jenny Oliver: Thanks again, Pathfinder!
Pathfinder Lester: my pleasure. have a great rest of the day.
Cider Jack: now I hope the door will open again….

And so ends another day of exploring with the Hypergrid Adventurers Club.

  1. John —

    Another great trip!

    One question:

Johnnie Waugh said: Notice that VirtualExchange is working on OpenSim 7 grids, in association with Linden Labs so lots of version 7 sims are commercial.

Do you know what “VirtualExchange” is?

    — Maria

    • Interesting. I totally missed that comment. I have no idea what he’s referring to.

Next time I see him inworld, I’ll be sure to ask. I don’t know of any projects around OpenSim involving Linden Lab these days.
