Hypergrid Adventurers Club meet #3 and #4: Exploring “instant” Hypergates and live rock on FrancoGrid

We had two meetings this past Sunday, so I’m combining the transcripts in this update.

We explored using Hypergates to instantly jump between grids as a group.  And in the second meeting we attended a big live rock concert on FrancoGrid by The Reymones.  Read on for details and photos of the event!

For more information about the Hypergrid Adventurers Club and how you can join us, please see our homepage.  You can also follow our club’s tweets at #HGAC.

As usual, the first half of the meeting was spent introducing ourselves to each other and discussing everyone’s various interests and virtual world projects.  Read on for a full transcript, pics, and a wild live music event at the end.

We begin on the island of Pathlandia on jokaydiaGRID.

Pathfinder Lester: my cows are hungry
Pathfinder Lester: i think they ate all the corn in my cornfield
Mimi Muircastle: skinny prims 🙂
Neo Cortex: hmm… either feed them… or we could set up a nice barbequeue ^^
Pathfinder Lester: also, if folks are looking for freebies, there are many things on my region here that are freely copyable.
Pathfinder Lester: if I find something interesting and free, I always put it out for other folks.
Eraldo Carlucci: New chair design I see
Pathfinder Lester: so feel free to explore whenever you like.
quaezar Agnomen: Keep crashing 🙂
Jaeger Vollmar: So that’s what happened to SL’s old cornfield where bad ava were once sent.
Niko Donburi nods. “You’ve got a great build here, Pathfinder. Now all you need is a stage for live music….!” lol
Cisop Sixpence: Avatars of the corn?
Mimi Muircastle: thanks!
Pathfinder Lester: Eraldo, when I originally uploaded these chairs (i build them on my opensim world running on my USB key), i forgot to include the textures. that’s why they were white before.
Pathfinder Lester: so i fixed that 🙂
Eraldo Carlucci: Got it…..just finished my sim on a stick
Pathfinder Lester: cool. working well for you?
Mimi Muircastle: what worlds are you in Eraldo?
Eraldo Carlucci: working great now working on mini grid
Cisop Sixpence: Wish I could connect my USB on a stick to SL and have my own home on SL.
Eraldo Carlucci: SL, SponOn3D, ReactionGrid and others
Cisop Sixpence: yes
Mimi Muircastle: ty
Pathfinder Lester: ok, i’m going to start.
Niko Donburi looks for gavel.
Pathfinder Lester: welcome everyone! great to see some new folks here. thank you for joining us today.
quaezar Agnomen: 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: as usual, the first 30 min of our meeting is for discussion and the second 30 min is for live touring of the hypergrid.
Mimi Muircastle: our pleasure definitely
Neo Cortex: thanks for setting up this meeting in this more “euro-friendly” timeframe!
Pathfinder Lester: and today we have a really neat thing to explore on the Hypergrid. We’ll be going to FrancoGrid again, and the folks there have scheduled a live music event.
Pathfinder Lester: They heard about our previous excursion, and many of them would like to meet us.
Angelle AARISS: Very nice!
Mimi Muircastle: yay – missed that trip
Pathfinder Lester: You can learn more about the francogrid project by following #francogrid on Twitter, and their website http://francogrid.org
Pathfinder Lester: Also, we’ll be making our first Hypergrid jump in a special way today….
Pathfinder Lester: we’re going to use one of the “instant” Hypergates I’ve set up on Pathlandia.
Pathfinder Lester: You just walk into the gate, and you’re instantly Hypergrid jumped to an entirely different grid.
Eraldo Carlucci: cool
Pathfinder Lester: So this will be a good chance to test that out. 🙂
Cisop Sixpence: Cool
Mimi Muircastle: very!
Niko Donburi: sweet; just like it is supposed to be!
Cisop Sixpence: nods
Pathfinder Lester: And if you want to know how I set that up, please see my blog post here: https://becunningandfulloftricks.com/2010/10/29/the-metaphor-of-portals/
Pathfinder Lester: At the start of every meeting, we like everyone to type in local chat a little introduction about themselves, and any interesting opensim projects you are working on.
Mimi Muircastle: so, is it okay to set one up here on Joykaydia if one owns land?
Pathfinder Lester: I will be posting a full transcript of this meeting on my blog, so this is a change to get the word out about who you are and what you’re interested in doing.
Pathfinder Lester: And if you do NOT want your chat included, please just say so in open chat and I will remove your comments from the transcript that I publish.
Neo Cortex: thats great, especially since Jokaydia grid is on the lower coordinates, so one could set up a permalink to the middle regions
Pathfinder Lester: So just go ahead and all type in intros at the same time.
Pathfinder Lester: and i will hand out a notecard while you all do so. 🙂

— End of Notecard —

Eraldo Carlucci: My company is Virtual Event Planners International http://www.virtual-epi.com. Primarily in SL but working on a mini grid here to explore more of OpenSim
Jaeger Vollmar: Teacher, of 8th grade, over 2 yrs in TSL (until of late), new owner of Sparta Island on this grid, as of a few days ago. Interested in OS, hypergridding and education.
Mimi Muircastle: Mimi/Charlotte – no special projects, just here to learn from you all – personal interests in education and nonprofits – been in SL for 2 years and now have land here! Mayflower and Orlando!
Niko Donburi smiles. “I’m Niko, Niko Donburi. Some of you may know me from my music performances in SL, where I specialized in songs about SL and virtual life. I am also a machinimist, so I’ll be doing a bit of that on our trips.”
Fons Tuinstra: Former foreign correspondent in Shanghai. working with Maraia Korolov on Hypergrid Business as a new country
Angelle AARISS: Community Advocacy Director or Reaction Grid with a building company started in SL.
Cisop Sixpence: I am Cisop Sixpence in Second Life and go by that name in Jokaydia, InWorldz, OsGrid, ReactionGrid and SpotON3D. I’m ex;poring different virtual worlds. Hopeing one day that I will be able to freely travel them with my SL inventory fully intact so I look consistant in my travels.
Mel Blauvelt: Philosopher, Science Circle board, interested in interdisciplinary research and blended learning
Neo Cortex: Hi, i am Neo Cortex, here, on osgrid, germangrid and several others, on SL i am ChrisAlex Sands, a jeweler and builder.
Annabelle Fanshaw: HI everyone- some of you probably know of our build group Alchemy Sims. Like most we are looking into Open Sim as an additional platform to what we do in SL. Currently, we are building for IBM Exhibition C, which will open in mid December- after that, Open Sim !
quaezar Agnomen: I am quaezar Agnomen, IRL my name is Agustin Martin. Living in the Netherlands, Europe. Working for 2 years on OpenSim and managing several grids and regions. In SL I am involved in helping out the Science Cirlce with technical issues and managing their website. In RL I am a system administrator Wintel Unix/Linux/Mac.
quaezar Agnomen: Thanks Pathfinder
Pathfinder Lester: It’s great to see how many folks here are exploring many different grids. Very cool stuff.
Jadyn Firehawk: former environmental geography professor, texas, usa, builder and Builders Brewery instructor in sl among other things, first time ever, today, on a grid different from sl
Pathfinder Lester: Jadyn, you are now a Gridnaut! 😀
Jadyn Firehawk: lol 🙂
Jokay Wollongong: hoooray jadyn.. welcome to opensim 😉
Jadyn Firehawk: ty!
Pathfinder Lester: Neo, as a jeweler, you must find the ability to make very small prims in Opensim very handy. Have you explored that much?
Jadyn Firehawk: just curious, is Pathlandia named after the book, “Islandia”?
Neo Cortex: actually i still prefer to twist them, ’cause that way i stay compatible thru all the grids
quaezar Agnomen: Yes Nice to see you here at OpenSim Jadyn 🙂
Jadyn Firehawk: ty 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: Jadyn, I don’t think I’ve ever read that book. the name pathlandia just sprung to my mind when I was choosing a name.
Pathfinder Lester: Neo, good point.
Pathfinder Lester: So please, if anyone has any questions or thoughts, toss ’em out there. We play things loose and open here in discussion. 🙂
Cisop Sixpence: I’m all for compatibility between the grids.
Neo Cortex: i think as long as not all grids have the same capabilities we creators should try to stay on a common level
Pathfinder Lester: Neo, that seems like the best strategy overall for content creators.
Pathfinder Lester: Do you use any of the other currency systems in opensim?
Jokay Wollongong: Agree Neo.. adds some challenges but we def try to do the same
Cisop Sixpence: I don’t use other currency systems on the grids.
quaezar Agnomen: Most of the time I explore the metaverse from my own grid.. unfortunatly this grid is to far from my regions so I can’t HGjump inhere from my grid.
Cisop Sixpence: does use PayPal however.
Mimi Muircastle: 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: quaezar, yes, that’s an important point. You cannot directly jump to *any* location on the Hypergrid. If they are over 4096 regions away, you have to make intermediate hops.
Pathfinder Lester: that’s a current limitation.
Niko Donburi: sounds like there is a need of a Hypergrid coordinator
Pathfinder Lester: A good index of all the locations on the Hypergrid is http://hyperica.com
Neo Cortex: i am sure we’ll set up some map on the adventurers wiki soon 😉
Fons Tuinstra: getting that intermediary hop was troublesome, so I prefered now to create a new avatar
Pathfinder Lester: Niko, I think Maria Korolov (who created Hyperica) might be working on something like that. But she’s not a coder. So I suspect some innovative coders will come up with neat systems to automate that someday.
Neo Cortex: btw… you asked about a name for those who want to go hypergrid jumping…
Angelle AARISS: Thank you, Pathfinder for the link.
quaezar Agnomen: I did make some portals so I can jump from my base region.. located at 9000×9000 to portal located at 5000×5000 ..then I jump to portal2 2000×2000 .. but still I got some issues.. gonna test tomorow why this won’t work still..
Jokay Wollongong: I want a Google map …. someone needs to get onto that..hehe
Pathfinder Lester: Jokay, oh YES
Pathfinder Lester: a Hypergrid Google Map!
Neo Cortex: The term Gridnauts was used during the first inter grid jumps
Niko Donburi: exactly, Jokay
Mimi Muircastle: love the google map idea 🙂
Fons Tuinstra: Google should like the idea too
Pathfinder Lester: Neo, ya, that term was coined back in 2008 when Linden Lab was experimenting with jumps between SL and Opensim.
Cisop Sixpence: I too like the Google map idea.
Neo Cortex: actually i still feel like a gridnaut ^^
Jaeger Vollmar: I imagine once that bug is fixed a hypergrid map will be moot. maybe a year?
Mel Blauvelt: Meadhbh is working in that direction with her slurl shortener, I hope she expands it for HG as well
Pathfinder Lester: see http://blip.tv/file/1060555/ for a video of LL’s work back in 2008
Neo Cortex: not sure if LL has copyrighted that one though 😉
Jokay Wollongong: oh yes.. that would be cool Mel!
Cisop Sixpence: has seen that video. 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: Does anyone have any other names that might be better?
quaezar Agnomen: Yes indeed.. There are some tool you can map your region on the grid with Google maps.. the old Redux grid manager had that possibility..but it should be awesome to map all the metaverse with a Google map
Neo Cortex: how about hypernauts ?
Pathfinder Lester: I like that!
Pathfinder Lester: Hypernaut
Jokay Wollongong: hehe.. hypernauts is pretty cute
Jadyn Firehawk: just as an FYI: http://sac.sagepub.com/content/11/3/200.extract
Angelle AARISS: Noe, that’s excellent!
Mimi Muircastle: hypernauts sounds like avies on caffeine 🙂
quaezar Agnomen: 🙂
Pathfinder Lester: Jadyn, oooh that looks like a very interesting paper!
Pathfinder Lester: ty for the link
Jadyn Firehawk: yw
Jokay Wollongong: and thanks jadyn.. awesome link

At this point in the meeting, Pathlandia had some hiccups and crashed.  Such is life on the Frontier!  Jokay Wollongong did some helpful work behind the scenes and got the server back on track.  Meanwhile, we rallied on a different region on jokaydiaGRID (Scooter) then prepared to make our way back to Pathlandia to continue as planned.

Pathfinder Lester: well, since it’s approaching 5:30, we should prepare for the tour part of the meeting.
Pathfinder Lester: If you open the notecard I sent you, you’ll see the tour plan.
Mimi Muircastle: ready:) whew!
Pathfinder Lester: Before we go…..
Pathfinder Lester: be sure you have set your “home” region in the World menu. and that you’ve relogged since you’ve set that.
Pathfinder Lester: boy, it’s a bumpy day for the metaverse… lol
quaezar Agnomen: haha 🙂 that is the fun part Pathfinder 🙂

The meeting was running a bit late at this point.  To save time we decided to use an instant Hypergate on Pathlandia (see pic below) to jump to MetaverseNexus grid, and from there to manually jump to FrancoGrid.

The group uses the instant Hypergate on Pathlandia to jump from jokaydiaGRID to MetaverseNexus grid.

Pathfinder.Lester: Jaegar, you made it! woot!
quaezar.Agnomen: Yes 🙂
Pathfinder.Lester: ok, from here…
Pathfinder.Lester: open world map
Jaeger.Vollmar: It hurt a little.
Neo.Cortex: cool gate!
Pathfinder.Lester: enter eos.francogrid.net:11200 in the text window next to the search button
Pathfinder.Lester: click search
Pathfinder.Lester: wait for map to move. then click teleport
Pathfinder.Lester: THEN….local teleport to the region “cevennes” that’s where the live music show is
Mimi.Muircastle: here but penniless 🙂
Pathfinder.Lester: everyone got it?
Pathfinder.Lester: Mimi, lol
Pathfinder.Lester: more folks coming 🙂
Mimetic.Core: my skin itches
Pathfinder.Lester: remember, once you get to FrancoGrid, do a local teleport to the region “cevennes”
Pathfinder.Lester: hi Ellie!
Neo.Cortex: up,up and awaaaaayyyyy….
Ellie.Brewster: wow, my first hypergrid teleport
Cisop.Sixpence: Made it this far. That is good.
Pathfinder.Lester: eos.francogrid.net:11200
Niko.Donburi: hey, it worked!
Pathfinder.Lester: we need to make 1 more grid jump
Pathfinder.Lester: Niko, awesome! 🙂
Cisop.Sixpence: Says nothing found.
Peter.Miller: ‘evenin’, all
Pathfinder.Lester: Cisop, try closing world map and searching again
Peter.Miller: Finally made it — a few still in the queue
Pathfinder.Lester: sometimes things aren’t found ont he first try
Pathfinder.Lester: if anyone isn’t clear on the plan from here, just shout and I’ll help 🙂
Peter.Miller: Got it
Pathfinder.Lester: i’ll wait here until everyone manages to jump
Cisop.Sixpence: Found it.
Pathfinder.Lester: awesome!
Pathfinder.Lester: we made it
Peter.Miller: yay, Path = man with the plan
Cisop.Sixpence: smiles
Pathfinder.Lester: so all of you have just made 2 hypergrid jumps.
Pathfinder.Lester: the first one was to metaversenexus grid.
Pathfinder.Lester: and now we’re on FrancoGrid 😀
Peter.Miller is not even sweating lightly yet
Niko.Donburi: oui oui!
Pathfinder.Lester: now it’s easy
Cisop.Sixpence: I like how my inventory is intact. Need SL to do this.
Pathfinder.Lester: just open the world map and look for the region “cevennes”
Pathfinder.Lester: that’s where the party is

The group makes a Hypergrid jump to FrancoGrid, then takes a local teleport to the region cevennes, but nobody else is at the concert location.

L.O.S Acceuil 1.1 shouts:  Bienvenue a Live Open Scene ( L.O.S ) : Pathfinder.Lester
L.O.S Acceuil 1.1 shouts: ** Live Open Scene sur Twitter **
L.O.S Acceuil 1.1 shouts: -> http://twitter.com/liveopenscene
Peter.Miller: Yay, Path!
Mimetic.Core: lol
Mimetic.Core: the emo shuffle
Pathfinder.Lester: bumpy ride, but i think we all made it
Niko.Donburi: so, to summarize, we just couldn’t TP here using an ordinary LM, right?
Neo.Cortex: any casualties?
Pathfinder.Lester: Niko, no
Pathfinder.Lester: we are on a different grid entirely
Pathfinder.Lester : i don’t know where the music folks are. hrmmm
Pathfinder.Lester: maybe it ended. we’re a bit late, unfortunately
Pathfinder.Lester: but now you know where they have shows here 😀

My mistake! The live rock concert was scheduled for later in the day!  But fear not.  In our next meeting we arrived at the right time to see and hear the amazing performance and meet folks from FrancoGrid.  Read on to see how that turned out.

Pathfinder Lester: To start, we all type in local chat a little intro about ourselves and the kinds of projects we’re working on or are interested in.
Pathfinder Lester: I post a full transcript of all the meetings on my blog, so this is a chance for you to spread the word about your work and interests.
Pathfinder Lester: and if you do NOT want me to post your chat in the public log, just say so in open chat and I will redact your comments from it.
Pathfinder Lester: So please jump in and introduce. I’ll hand out a notecard while you do so.

Isa Goodman: pfft cutr and paste
Susan Briere: Jokay – definitely interested.
Jokay Wollongong: yay.. will keep you posted 😉
Peter Miller: I’m a biologist at the University of Liverpool — for no obvious reason, I seem to have developed a lethal sideline in lag-inducing molecular structures
Isa Goodman: hehe
Jokay Wollongong: heheh Peter… we’ll make you a Lag happens tshirt.. lolz
Cider Jack: nice one
Maya Paris: i think i’ve been lagged by your molecules!
Peter Miller: tyvm
Arwenna Stardust: lol Peter 🙂
Susan Briere: Hehe
Pathfinder Lester: And Maya, I’m familiar with your great art in SL. Love it. You’ve also been working with L1Aura Loire on machinima haven’t you?
Pathfinder Lester: Peter’s molecular projects are legendary 🙂
Maya Paris: we worked side by side, i built and she machinimas…..if that’s a verb:)
Peter Miller: lagendary for sure
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Pathfinder Lester: hi Jenny. welcome.
Jokay Wollongong: HI Jenny 😉
Jenny Oliver: Hi1 Made it!
Jokay Wollongong: well done! 😉
Oronoque Westland: for some reason much of what I copied on the Franco Grid has disappeared from my inventory
Pathfinder Lester: we’re introducing ourselves to the group. feel free to jump in and say who you are and what your projects/interests are.
Jenny Oliver: Hi! even! Laptop balanced upon icepacks, as ever
Pathfinder Lester: Oro, that seems to happen sometime. Has happened to me too.
Maya Paris: Hi jenny
Peter Miller: Hi Jenny 🙂
Jokay Wollongong: Everyone blow cool air jenny’s way.. lolz
Susan Briere: I had the same experience, Oro.
Jenny Oliver: Hehe!
Oronoque Westland: loved playing hamster though
Arwenna Stardust: One thing I have noticed is that items that are No Transfer don’t seem to rez when you bring them home
Aaron Duffy: Jenny: great idea! I may have to try that
Jokay Wollongong: yeah.. we find sometimes assets just dont make it across..
Jokay Wollongong: specially if you see it lag when you click to buy / take a copy
Arwenna Stardust: I think it is the No Trans that is the problem
Jenny Oliver: [Wrap icepacks in tea-towel to absorb moisture though]
Arwenna Stardust: all the ones that I had prob with yesterday were no trans
Cider Jack: I’ve found after hypergridding, then relogging, I’m ruthed
Oronoque Westland: good to know
Jokay Wollongong: We had some ruthy prob yesterday didnt we pathfinder? 😉 Think a good rule of thumb is to have a very basic avatar outfit folder in your inventory…. so you can unstick yourself if that happens
Oronoque Westland: I was ruthed all day yesterday, but not the other times that I HG’d…maybe its sporadic or sporadruth
Jokay Wollongong: The original jgrid boy and jgrid girl do the trick 😉
Arwenna Stardust: that has happend to me on two occasions too – ruthed. @ Oro lol!
Pathfinder Lester: Jokay’s advice is very good.
Pathfinder Lester: I always keep a folder called “my basic me”
Cider Jack: I always keep this avatar in a single folder, so it’s a quick fix 🙂
Arwenna Stardust: this is when our oldbie knowledge is useful to us as newbies eh?
Cider Jack: aye!
Pathfinder Lester: Arwenna, precisely.
Oronoque Westland: mine says “original Oro”, cuz I’m special
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Jokay Wollongong: hehe i think we need to start working on a Hypergridders FAQ..
Pathfinder Lester: ooooh Claudia is here!
Arwenna Stardust: lol! mine just says Stardust – cos I am
Peter Miller: Yay, Claudia
Oronoque Westland: hi Claudia
Jokay Wollongong: mebbe we can make a wikispace or something Pathfinder
Susan Briere: Perhaps I’l l create one before we go adventuring.
Jokay Wollongong: Welcome Claudia! 😉
Susan Briere: A copy of me, not an FAQ.
Liam Gunns: a FAQ would be good to help my coworkers that tend to freak out when tech goes wrong
Jokay Wollongong: hehe.. you always get me humming joni mitchell songs, arwenna.. lolz
Arwenna Stardust: lol!! oh Susan! not a faq in 5 mins!!
Arwenna Stardust: haha Jokay!
Susan Briere: Yes, it’s good to have a reference document. I’m read and reread Pathfinder’s blog posts to help get going.
Arwenna Stardust: yes Liam – we have done some stuff on wikieducator.org
Pathfinder Lester: many people have told me they also follow the reports I post of each of these meetings
Pathfinder Lester: and they follow in our footsteps
Claudia LAmoreaux: Hello. Sorry to be late. meeting ran over
Isa Goodman: yes they do Pathfinder
Arwenna Stardust: a good place to send people with basic SL questons – maybe we should do same for OS
Isa Goodman: Friends who can come along read the trip *smiles
Arwenna Stardust: oh yes Path – !
Pathfinder Lester: well, Jokay is the master at creating wikis to help folks get up to speed on many things in virtual worlds
Oronoque Westland: I have met AVs here who are doing taht (following in our footsteps via the blog)
Jenny Oliver: I did the first trip using the notecard
Pathfinder Lester: Oro, oh cool
Susan Briere: I did, also.
Susan Briere: Rob Merchi shared a notecard with me, also. In addition to the one I copied from the blog.
Oronoque Westland: maybe we should leave trail markers
Jokay Wollongong: Hrm.. mebbe we need an archive of notecards inworld in a vendor somewhere
Arwenna Stardust: breadcrumbs
Jokay Wollongong: oh that Rob.. she is good 😉
Pathfinder Lester: Jokay, i like that idea a lot.
Johnnie Waugh: good idea Jokay
Susan Briere: What a sweetheart!
Cider Jack: trail markers – cairns!
Jokay Wollongong: Pathfinder – lets work on it this week… mebbe we can put one at RG and here at jgrid
Cider Jack: add a stone as we pass…
Aaron Duffy: I haen’t been HG1.0 hopping in a while but on HG1.5 many people leave flags marking their visit
Pathfinder Lester: i could also update each notecard from all our meetings to include a link to the blog summary and transcript of that particular meeting.
Arwenna Stardust: good idea Jo
Susan Briere: btw, I tried the hypergate over on Sagacity today but I couldn’t walk through it. Should I have?
Pathfinder Lester: Aaron, oh neat!
Pathfinder Lester: Susan, I haven’t seen that Hypergate
Pathfinder Lester: is it a standard one?
Susan Briere: Hmmm, I thought it must be yours?
Jokay Wollongong: the Sagacity one is a clickable one..
Jokay Wollongong: rather than a walk thru one..
Pathfinder Lester: i didn’t leave any over there
Jokay Wollongong: it belongs to the lovely Chimera Cosmos..
Pathfinder Lester: yeah, mine are “walk thru and blammo, you go”
Jokay Wollongong: I’ll check it to make sure its working 😉
Susan Briere: I shall try clicking next time, although I’m pretty sure I did..
Susan Briere: Thanks much.
Oronoque Westland: Is the one on scooter blam or click?
Jokay Wollongong: The current one on Scooter is a click one..
Cider Jack: blamgate lol
Jokay Wollongong: but we’ll work on some blamgates for the new mentors lab 😉
Pathfinder Lester: “Blamgate” lol
Cider Jack: sounds scandelous
Pathfinder Lester: i like that
Jokay Wollongong: i’m letting pathfinder find the bugs.. hehe
Jenny Oliver: Perhaps we need some form of icon on a gate to denote which is which?
Oronoque Westland: I clicked and got hte first menu but nothing after, so wasn’t sure what I missed
Pathfinder Lester: yes, I am helping stress test the hypergrid 😛
Jokay Wollongong: and doing a fab job too pathfinder 😉
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Pathfinder Lester: well, that brings us to how we’ll start our tour ina fe min
Pathfinder Lester: few min
Jokay Wollongong: woot 😉
Pathfinder Lester: for our first jump, we’ll use one of my “blamgates”
Isa Goodman: ok
Oronoque Westland: blam blam blam balm
Arwenna Stardust: lol – we have a new name methinks!
Pathfinder Lester: we’ll all walk through it (try to form a line and not all go through at the same time)
Jokay Wollongong: *pats grid* and promises treats if it behaves 😉
Pathfinder Lester: and we’ll be immediately Hypergrid jumped to ReactionGrid
Susan Briere: Hehe
Cider Jack: no pushing!
Arwenna Stardust: ok 🙂
Susan Briere: Yippee
Johnnie Waugh: Just a question before we go path..is there any answer to the problem of a few things not rezzing… such as the occasional tree or sculptie when one is in Hippo or Imprudence and movign through hypergrids
Pathfinder Lester: if you want to see how I set up the gate to work like that, there’s a URL in the notecard to my blog post
Isa Goodman: cool
Oronoque Westland: great Path
Jokay Wollongong: One thing to try johnnie is dropping your view distance a little..
Jokay Wollongong: so it doesnt have to rez quite so much
Pathfinder Lester: what Jokay said 🙂
Jokay Wollongong: i find when im out hypergridding i drop it to 256..
Johnnie Waugh: okay
Jokay Wollongong: when im home i have it switched right up
Arwenna Stardust: good advice Jo – adjusting now
Johnnie Waugh: yes mine is always on 512
Susan Briere: I’ll pull up the end of the line, got to do a quick save of my avatar, just in case..
Jokay Wollongong: Cool.. so drop to 256 and see if it helps
Claudia LAmoreaux: path, can we use approach mentioned in card as well…by adding hypergrid address in map search and then clicking teleport…?
Pathfinder Lester: and for everyone who has NOT done so yet. be sure you’ve set your Home location and have relogged since you set it. If you don’t, Hypergrid jumps will not work.
Pathfinder Lester: Claudia, yes
Jokay Wollongong: the hypergrid wont let you out to play until it knows where to send you home 😉
Pathfinder Lester: but blamgates are more fun
Pathfinder Lester: lol
Claudia LAmoreaux: or is walking through the gate more fun….but of course
Pathfinder Lester: Jokay, great way of putting it.
Pathfinder Lester: so feel free to set your home to Pathlandia here if you wish
Pathfinder Lester: and relog
Isa Goodman: right… in for a penny…
Isa Goodman: lets BLAM!!!
Pathfinder Lester: follow me to the blamgate!
Pathfinder Lester: (i do like that nickname)

Pathfinder Lester: go on through if you’re ready
Cider Jack: I accidentally flew into this yesterday when all I wanted was to pick up a copy lol
Pathfinder Lester: Cider, lol
Pathfinder Lester: BLAM
Cider Jack: blam!
Arwenna Stardust: exactly!

The intrepid Hypernauts enter the instant Hypergate on Pathlandia (now apparently called a “Blamgate” by group consensus) and make a Hypergrid jump to ReactionGrid.

Pathfinder.Lester: Welcome to ReactionGrid!
Arwenna.Stardust: this is what makes OS a real goer for me
Cider.Jack: so far…
Isa.Goodman: that was just fun *grinning from ear to ear
Cider.Jack: yes, I know what you mean!
Pathfinder.Lester: and you’ll see your av and inventory are still with you
Maya.Paris: good whoosh!
Arwenna.Stardust: @CJ – lol!
Pathfinder.Lester: check out the link in the notecard to learn how to set such gates up
Pathfinder.Lester: now, from here, we do it the regular way
Isa.Goodman: need some special effects at the other end
Pathfinder.Lester: 1) Open your World Map.
2) In the text box next to the Search button, enter the Hypergrid Address.
3) Click the Search button and wait for the map to move to the jump region.
4) Click the Teleport button.
Arwenna.Stardust: ok
Arwenna.Stardust: yes!! arrive in a blam of glory!
Pathfinder.Lester: and our next jump destination is 173.14.32.59:9000:Imagine Metaverse Core
Pathfinder.Lester: that will take us to the MetaverseNexus grid
Pathfinder.Lester: you folks go ahead. I’ll follow after everyone’s gone
Pathfinder.Lester: if you have any probs jumping from here, just yell out
Pathfinder.Lester: sometimes search doesn’t find the jump regions on the first try
Claudia.LAmoreaux: so we’re not lingering here…on to the next jump?
Pathfinder.Lester: if it doesn’t just reopen the map and try again
Pathfinder.Lester: Claudia, yes
Claudia.LAmoreaux: ah got it
Pathfinder.Lester: we are jumping from here to 173.14.32.59:9000:Imagine Metaverse Core
Pathfinder.Lester: can’t always take direct paths thru the Hypergrid
Claudia.LAmoreaux: oh got it … jump there first, then to the next
Claudia.LAmoreaux: ok
Pathfinder.Lester: it’s kinda like using the Map in Time Bandits
Pathfinder.Lester: you got it
Pathfinder.Lester: open the notecard I gave you. steps are in there.
Pathfinder.Lester: follow the instructions in the notecard, and i’ll see you on the region “cevennes” in FrancoGrid
Pathfinder.Lester waves

The Hypernauts make a Hypergrid jump from ReactionGrid to MetaverseNexus grid.

And from there, they make a Hypergrid jump to FrancoGrid.  Then the group makes a local teleport to the region cevennes.

Something is going on in cevennes.  Something awesome!

There’s a big crowd of dancing folks from FrancoGrid.  Everyone is listening to a live audio stream of a live rock show being performed by The Reymones.  The performers are onstage, surrounded by stunning lights and special live effects.

  2. Another great tour with the HGAC. Always interesting conversations and networking followed by some fascinating tour destinations. I had already visited Francogrid by following the tour card from HGAC02 but to see the music performance build in full use was very special. Looking at an empty stage is quite different from the immersive experience of hearing live music in real time and watching light displays. The complexity of the build and the scripting itself was very impressive – by showing us what is possible in OpenSim the Francogrid builders are encouraging us all to push the boundaries even further and aim for the impossible! Thanks again Pathfinder and a special thanks to The Reymones and to our hosts on Francogrid.

  3. Hi Pathfinder & Maria!
i have recreated the blamportal ^^ from Marias scripts and put it on my osgrid sim. While creating it i remembered something Maria said: she is collecting HG adresses and has pictures of (at least some) destinations in her database (and even made that available to another HG directory). How about putting those pictures onto the inner semitransparent part of the portal? This would give visitors an idea what they had to expect if they walked thru it. I dont know if there is already some kind of api to access that info and what would be the best way to display it (MOAP?, direct access to the region info via some special URL, uploading them into some asset server…). I’d be happy to give those ideas a try, lets meet and have a chat about it.
    cu,
    Neo

  4. With regard to the discussion in Meeting #4 on how to use the other Hypergate (not the “Blamgate”), I found that you have to click it twice to make it work: once to select a menu and then a second time to actually TP to your destination. I think it would be helpful for someone to put up a sign next to each Hypergate to advise users.
